Ben Affleck to Return as Bruce Wayne/Batman in THE FLASH Movie in 2022

g6iUFCq.jpg

Batman forever strives for a chance to set things right. That may finally happen with Ben Affleck’s version of the crimefighter. The Argo director’s brooding Dark Knight is coming back for one more movie, with Affleck agreeing to return as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming big-screen version of The Flash, Vanity Fair has learned.

This does not disrupt The Batman film starring Robert Pattinson, who remains the future of the franchise.

The Flash movie, which is planned for release in summer 2022, will feature fast-moving hyper-hero Barry Allen, played by Ezra Miller, breaking the bonds of physics to crash into various parallel dimensions, where he’ll encounter slightly different versions of DC’s classic heroes. It’s an adaptation of DC’s 2011 Flashpoint series of comic book crossovers, directed by Andy Muschietti, the filmmaker behind the recent adaptations of Stephen King’s It and It Chapter Two.

Affleck got the script at the end of last week and agreed this week to join the project.

Affleck won’t be the only Batman making a comeback; a few more of the alternate-dimension heroes who turn up in the Flash movie will be figures we’ve seen before. Michael Keaton’s Batman from the 1989 Tim Burton film is also set to appear in what Muschietti said was a “substantial” part.

There's another reason The Flash needed the character affectionately known as Batfleck. In DC’s movie universe, Affleck’s gray-templed Bruce Wayne is the one Ezra's Flash would consider “the original Batman,” the one he has already fought alongside in the previous Zack Snyder films.

Muschietti said it wouldn’t work as well for him to venture into the company of other Batmen without having Affleck as the starting point. “He’s the baseline. He’s part of that unaltered state before we jump into Barry’s adventure,” the director said. “There's a familiarity there.”

Barbara Muschietti, the producer of The Flash (and sister and longtime collaborator of the director), told Vanity Fair she had worried this might make him reluctant to return at all. “There have been some all sorts of stories and things he said himself about having a very hard time playing Batman, and it had been difficult for him,” she said. “I think it was more about a difficult time in his life. When we approached him, he’s now in a very different time in his life. He was very open to it, which was a bit of a surprise to us. It was a question mark.”

“We are all human and go through great times in our lives and terrible times in our lives,” she added. “Right now he’s in a place where he can actually enjoy being Batman.” Plus, he doesn't have to carry the entire movie. “It's a pivotal role, but at the same time it’s a fun part,” she said.

Michael Keaton in Talks to Return as Batman in THE FLASH Movie

bOv4NCH.jpg

After nearly 30 years, Michael Keaton is in talks to return to the role of Batman, to appear alongside Ezra Miller in Warner Bros.’ upcoming movie “The Flash,” TheWrap has learned exclusively. Talks with Keaton are in the very early stages, it is far from a sure thing, and can go either way. No details are currently available about how big or small Keaton’s role is.

If a deal makes, Keaton wouldn’t just return for Flash but possibly for several other DC-oriented film projects. Sources tell THR that the role being envisioned for the veteran actor is akin to the role played by Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, something of a mentor or guide or even string-puller. Batgirl is one the projects in development that could fall into that category.

That plot will introduce general audiences to the idea of the multiverse, one of the of core concepts underpinning DC Comics. For the non fanboy set, the multiverse refers to a shifting number of alternate universes that coexist within the larger reality depicted in DC comics. Originally created to explain various contradictory changes the company’s characters experienced over decades, it allows several different versions of the same characters to simultaneously exist and, occasionally, interact. Matt Reeves upcoming “The Batman” will not be affected and Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne is still viewed as the future of the franchise.

Keaton last played Batman in 1992’s “Batman Returns,” but quit the role during development of a third film after Burton was pushed out as director and replaced with Joel Schumacher, who took the series in a campier direction with 1995’s “Batman Forever” and its much-reviled 1997 follow up “Batman & Robin.”

But “The Flash” will disregard the latter two entries entirely, and explore what Keaton’s version of Batman has been up since we last saw him. Loosely based on the 2011 DC Comics crossover event “Flashpoint” — previously announced as the film’s title at Comic-Con 2017 — the story sees Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen travel back in time to prevent the death of his mother. The result? Allen inadvertently creates another universe protected by Michael Keaton’s Batman, now 30 years older.

Warner Bros. Sets July 1, 2022 Release Date for THE FLASH Movie Starring Ezra Miller

lzEcozr.jpg

Warner Bros. has dated its DC Comics solo The Flash movie for the summer of 2022 and will be released on July 1, the studio announced on Wednesday.

Ezra Miller will reprise his role as the scarlet speedster. Created in 1956, DC Comics’ The Flash, whose secret identity is Barry Allen, is a hero with the power of super speed that allows him incredible abilities, including time travel. The character was a part of Zack Snyder’s Justice League and debuted in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

“Nothing is ever certain in this world, but as certain as things get, we’re making a f–king crazy-dope ‘Flash’ movie,” Miller said in an interview with Playboy.

Miller called starring in the standalone movie “one of my greatest life dreams.”

“Anyone who knows about Barry Allen knows he may arrive late, very late, but once he gets there, it’s all solved. We have to trust,” Miller said.

It director Andy Muschietti is in talks to direct The Flash, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap. Muschietti’s partner and sister, Barbara Muschietti, will produce along with Michael Disco on the film. Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson is being eyed to write the script.

Andy Muschietti Replaces John Frances Daley and Jonathan Goldestein as THE FLASH Director

3Nd7lgN.jpg

Warner Bros.’ Flash movie project has been jolted by lighting. Andy Muschietti, the filmmaker behind the hit Stephen King adaptation It and the upcoming It: Chapter Two, is in talks to direct the action-adventure project based on the DC Comics superhero. His partner and sister, Barbara Muschietti, will produce, joining Michael Disco on the project.

John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who wrote drafts of the script and were slated to helm the project, have moved on. However, Ezra Miller, the actor who has long been attached to star as the fleet-footed hero, remains on board to star.

But in a further development, the studio won’t be moving forward with the script Miller co-wrote with comics author Grant Morrison. Instead, Warners will hire Christina Hodson, the scribe behind Bumblebee and the studio's upcoming DC movie, the Margot Robbie-fronted Birds of Prey, to tackle the script. The goal is to be in prep by January.

Dealmaking has not yet begun, stress insiders. Official offers are expected to go out shortly.

Goldstein and Daley’s exit is described as voluntarily, according to multiple sources. The pair have been with the project since January 2018, writing the script and developing it to direct. At one point, the project seemed like it was heading toward a start date in late 2019. But months of tensions over creative differences bogged down the project, with the duo deciding it was time to move on and find new opportunities.

The tensions surfaced around what kind of take was the best fit for a Flash movie. Miller, who has played the character since 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, favored a darker approach, while Goldstein and Daley, the pair who wrote Spider-Man: Homecoming and were behind the comedy hit Game Night, wanted the opposite.

The two sides have been working on compromises since last year, but Miller then made the unusual move to take it upon himself to pen his own script, enlisting the aid of comics superstar Morrison. That script was submitted to the studio in March. By May, the studio rejected his approach, but concluded that Miller should still remain the Scarlet Speedster.

Muschietti hails from the horror world and made his feature debut with Mama, the 2013 thriller that starred Jessica Chastain. His adaptation of It, released in 2017, was a critical and commercial hit, making over $700 million worldwide. Warners is high on the sequel, with the title being the only movie the studio will be showcasing at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con. With Muschietti being chosen for Flash, the studio is clearly pleased with the filmmaker, too.

If a deal is made, Muschietti will be the latest horror filmmaker to cross over to directing a DC movie after going through the trenches of sister division New Line. James Wan directed Aquaman, a billion dollar hit, while David Sandberg, who directed Annabelle: Creation and Lights Out, made the most recent DC hit, Shazam! Jaume Collet-Serra, who got his start with movies such as House of Wax and Orphan, is attached to helm Black Adam.

Ezra Miller Now Writing THE FLASH Script with Grant Morrison to Stay on Board as Star

Z7T6wRF.jpg

In a bid to keep himself involved as the Scarlet Speedster, actor Ezra Miller is taking a hands-on approach to The Flash. Miller is taking a stab at writing the script for the Warner Bros. project, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. He has teamed up with Grant Morrison, the acclaimed comics author, to pen a draft that could determine if he stays on as star, playing crimefighter Barry Allen.

The development has bubbled up from a clash of creative visions. John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who have been on board the project since January 2018, have a light-hearted approach to the material (and even hail from that sort of background, with credits like Spider-Man: Homecoming and Game Night). And, as sources note, that is the general track favored by Warners, which scored a billion-dollar hit with Aquaman by going the fun spectacle route and is seeing strong buzz on Shazam!, which is wearing its “superheroics is fun” on its sleeve .

Miller is said to want a darker take on the material.

The two sides have been working on compromises since last year but Miller took the initiative to tackle the story himself. He partnered with Morrison, with Warners hiring the two to script their take. It is a rare move for an actor to be so invested in a superhero project that they switch hats, but Miller sees himself as deeply committed to the character.

Despite its namesake, Flash has been anything but in its journey to the silver screen, going through several directors and writers. Miller, however, has been a constant, having been first cast by filmmaker Zack Snyder for the role in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and embracing the role fully in Justice League.

The script could be submitted to the studio as early as next week.

But there could be a lot riding on it. If Warners chooses against Miller's take on the hero, the actor could part ways with the project. Additionally, and fittingly for a hero who races to beat the clock, there is a countdown scenario here as well: according to one insider, Miller’s holding deal on Flash expires May.

Despite the clashes on Flash, Miller remains a presence on the Warners lot. He has played a key character in the studio’s Fantastic Beasts movies and is expected to shoot the third installment at the end of this year.

John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein Are the New Directors for FLASHPOINT

3hvMQKN.jpg

John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are staying in the superhero game. The screenwriting duo behind Sony and Marvel's Spider-Man: Homecoming are moving over to DC and are in talks to direct Warner Bros. Flash: Flashpoint movie, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Variety reports that Warner Bros. had initially courted Ben Affleck to return to the director’s chair for Flashpoint, but he passed on the gig.

The film will star Ezra Miller reprising his role from Justice League. The film has previously had two other directors attached. Dope filmmaker Rick Famuyiwa in October 2016 over "creative differences.” His exit followed that of Seth Grahame-Smith, who had written the script and was attached to direct.

Daley and Goldstein were largely known for penning comedies such as Horrible Bosses and 2015's Vacation before writing last year's Spider-Man, which earned more than $880 million worldwide.

No date has been set for Flash, but Warners' next DC movie to hit theaters is Jason Momoa's Aquaman in December, followed by Shazam! in April 2019. The studio recently tapped exec Walter Hamada to spearhead its DC films.

Warner Bros. Announces THE FLASH Movie is Now Titled FLASHPOINT

z8WgJrB.jpg

The announcement that Warner Bros' solo Flash movie will, apparently, be called Flashpoint (or perhaps Flash: Flashpoint, it's unclear) during the studio's San Diego Comic-Con presentation Saturday morning was a surprise on multiple fronts. For one thing, just the fact that the movie isn't called The Flash might seem unusual, until you remember that it's in the WB's best interests to find some way of differentiating the movie from the TV show of the same name (despite the fact that both feature versions of the same character).

However, Flashpoint isn't a title with no resonance for the Flash as a character; it's the name of a five-issue 2011 comic book series that was later adapted (in concept only) as the plot engine for the first half of the third season of the CW series — the idea that DC's Fastest Man Alive would use his powers to go back in time to save the life of his mother, only to wreck the timeline as a result.

In the TV version of the plot, things were (mostly) returned to normal within an hour, albeit with specific aftershocks that drove future episodes. In the comic book story, however — written by Geoff Johns, who not coincidentally is now in charge of DC's movie output — things are far more complicated: The "Flashpoint" universe rewrites the larger DC Universe in a way that creates alternate versions of Batman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Superman and Green Lantern…all of whom exist within the DC movieverse, and are primed for an alternate take that could put a spotlight on the (unchanged) Flash in a way that few other storylines could follow.

Such a movie wouldn't just allow for actors like Jason Momoa and Gal Gadot to play against their established DC roles (The Flashpoint Wonder Woman and Aquaman are essentially at war with humanity in their own ways, and far more violent characters), if it followed the course of the comic storyline, it would allow Jeffrey Dean Morgan to return as Bruce Wayne's father, Thomas — a character who, in Flashpoint's timeline, becomes the Batman when his son is murdered by a mugger in an alleyway.

Matthew Vaughn, Robert Zemeckis, Sam Raimi Frontrunners to Direct THE FLASH

CSCrI81.png

Warner Bros.’s big-screen take on The Flash has narrowed down it's search to three directors: Matthew Vaughn, Robert Zemeckis and Sam Raimi have all met in recent weeks and are each strong contenders for the gig.

The trio of directors emerge as Warners is in the final throes of its search for a filmmaker to tackle the Scarlet Speedster after losing Rick Famuyiwa, who made Sundance sensation Dope, in October 2016 over "creative differences.”

Those differences emerged even as casting was ramping up and his departure put Flash on the skids, temporarily shelving production and a release date.

Famuyiwa was the second departure after Seth Grahame-Smith, who had written the script and was slated to make his directorial debut.

The recent search for a Flash director was a closely guarded affair and each of the names rose and fell on studio's heat index even as each had challenges, schedule or otherwise, to overcome. Even Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were re-considered to possibly return to a project for which they wrote a treatment years ago.

The current frontrunner appears to be Back to the Future and Forrest Gump director Zemeckis. He is now focused on a new project, an untitled drama that will star Steve Carell and that will shoot this fall and that appeared to sideline him from the gig. But now some sources say that Warners is willing to wait for him. Zemeckis last directed Brad Pitt in the WWII spy drama Allied.

Jon Berg and Geoff Johns are producing Flash, which is working with a new draft by Joby Harold, writer on the studio’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

Vaughn, the filmmaker already deeply experienced in comic book movies with films such as X-Men: First Class and Kingsman: The Secret Service andcounts Kick-Ass in his comic book movie repertoire, is readying his latest film, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, for a Sept. 22 release.

Raimi spent the better part of the 2000s working on Columbia's Spider-Man trilogy, which starred Maguire as the Marvel Comics hero along with Kirsten Dunst and James Franco. The second movie, which featured Alfred Molina as villain Dr. Octopus, is considered a landmark in the comic book movie form. The trilogy grossed almost $2.7 billion dollars. The last movie Raimi directed was Oz the Great and Powerful, the 2013 Disney movie that acted as a prequel to Wizard of Oz.

Warner Bros. Taps Joby Harold to Do Page-One Rewrite on THE FLASH Script

H3NBVsp.png

While The Flash waits to find its new director, Warner Bros. has tapped Joby Harold to do a page-one rewrite to the script, sources tell Variety.

[Page one rewrite - When a script's central premise or characters are good but the script is otherwise unusable, a different writer or team of writers is contracted to do an entirely new draft.]

The pic has been on hold since losing director Rick Famuyiwa and while it waits to find his replacement, the studio has decided to take script in different direction.

Executives have been taking their time in finding his replacement. With Ezra Miller, who will play the speedy superhero, getting ready to shoot Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2, they decided work on a new script in the meantime.

Famuyiwa had written the latest draft. Sources say the original reason for his departure had to do with executives disagreeing with where he had taken the script. Seth Grahame-Smith had also written a previous draft.

Kiersey Clemons is attached to play Iris West, and Billy Crudup will play Miller’s father.

Harold has past ties to the studio, having most recently written King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. Other projects in development include a new Robin Hood movie for Warner Bros., as well as a Twilight Zone film for the studio.

THE FLASH Loses DOPE Director Rick Famuyiwa Due to Creative Differences

knDHfVz.jpg

The Flash, Warner Bros.’ big-screen take on its speedster superhero, has lost its director.

Rick Famuyiwa, who made waves with his coming-of-age Sundance sensation Dope, has parted ways with the studio over "creative differences," The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Famuyiwa has been on board since June developing the project, even overseeing the castings of Kiersey Clemons and Billy Crudup in key roles.

The movie, which is to star Ezra Miller as Barry Allen, the fastest man alive, was in pre-production as it headed towards a March 2017 start date with a release date of March 16, 2018.

The departure of Famuyiwa will likely mean the delay of the movie’s start of production and release as Miller has a commitment in July.

"When I was approached by Warner Bros and DC about the possibility of directing The Flash, I was excited about the opportunity to enter this amazing world of characters that I loved growing up, and still do to this day," said Famuyiwa in a statement to THR.

He added: "I was also excited to work with Ezra Miller, who is a phenomenal young actor. I pitched a version of the film in line with my voice, humor, and heart. While it’s disappointing that we couldn’t come together creatively on the project, I remain grateful for the opportunity. I will continue to look for opportunities to tell stories that speak to a fresh generational, topical, and multicultural point of view. I wish Warner Brothers, DC, Jon Berg, Geoff Johns, and Ezra Miller all the best as they continue their journey into the speed force."

Sources say that the Dope director’s vision of making a movie with more edge clashed with the studio’s take.

Famuyiwa is now the second director to leave Flash. He put on the helmer's sneakers after Seth Grahame-Smith, who wrote the script and was attached to direct. (Grahame-Smith was working off a treatment by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who at one point were eyeing it as a possible directing vehicle.)

WATCHMEN's Billy Crudup to Play Barry Allen's Father in THE FLASH

After playing Dr. Manhattan in the Warner Bros. film Watchmen, Billy Crudup is now looking to reunite with the studio on one of their highly anticipated comic book movies. Sources tell Variety Crudup is in talks to play the father of Barry Allen (aka the Flash) in the upcoming Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment film, which stars Ezra Miller as the title character.

Kiersey Clemons is also on board as Iris West with Dope helmer Rick Famuyiwa. Seth Grahame-Smith penned the script which is based on a treatment by Chris Miller and Phil Lord. Production is expected to start this year with the pic set to open on March 16, 2018.

Plot details are being kept under wraps but Miller has already made a cameo as the character in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and will also appear as the superhero in Justice League which opens next year.

Crudup has roles in the Oscar winning Spotlight, the Sundance darling The Stanford Prison Experiment, the upcoming biopic Jackie and 20th Century Women starring Annette Bening. Crudup most recently wrapped production on Alien: Covenant.

Villains for THE FLASH Movie Rumored to Include Captain Cold and Golden Glider

dy5bGb0.jpg

Not much details about the actual plot is known for The Flash movie, other than there will be Rogues. However rumors started flying today as to who they would be noted by Jeff Sneider of Mashable via Twitter:

"Seeing rumors about the Rogues in THE FLASH. FWIW, last week I heard villains are Rogues members Golden Glider and her bro Captain Cold."

Both Captain Cold and Golden Glider are classic Rogues of The Flash, as we've already seen what they are capable of in The CW's The Flash television series. If these rumors are true, we might be seeing this sibling crime duo make the jump on the big screen, obviously with different actors.

In the meantime, we can at least keep our fingers crossed that we'll be seeing Jai Courtney's Captain Boomerang appear, too.

The Rogues Reportedly to be the Villains in Rick Famuyiwa's THE FLASH Movie

50wxor2.jpg

Movie rumor maven Umberto "El Mayimbe" Gonzalez revealed during a Periscope broadcast tonight that he has learned Rick Famuyiwa's The Flash will feature not one villain, but a team of them.

The Rogues, to be specific -- as specific as one can be without actually naming any of the Rogues that might be appearing.

One assumes that if the report at Heroic Hollywood, Gonzalez's site, is true, the first villain added to the film will be Jai Courtney, who appeared in Suicide Squad as Captain Boomerang. In the film, he was brought into custody by The Flash.

In the comics, the Rogues are The Flash's most famous group of villains, and usually include Boomerang, Captain Cold, Heat Wave, Mirror Master, Abrakadabra, Weather Wizard, and more.

Two major Rogues -- Mirror Master and The Top -- will debut on The CW's The Flash this season. The Trickster, Boomerang, and Weather Wizard have all appeared in one or more episodes, and both Captain Cold and Heat Wave are headed into their second season on DC's Legends of Tomorrow this year.

Ray Fisher's Cyborg Will Appear in Rick Famuyiwa's THE FLASH Movie

EIcdJ2q.jpg

Cyborg will appear in The Flash, sources tell Variety.

It’s not known how substantial a role the hero will play in the film. But it’s another signal of DC Comics and Warner Bros.’ ambitions to build a sprawling, cinematic universe to compete with Marvel Studios, one where heroes and villains will pop up in solo spinoff adventures, as well as lend support to other costumed allies.

Cyborg’s appearance in The Flash and next year’s Justice League are intended to whet audiences’ interest in the character, building toward a potential, standalone Cyborg film in 2020.

Ray Fisher, a newcomer best known for his stage work, has played Cyborg and his alter-ego Victor Stone. He made a small cameo appearance in last spring’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. DC released Suicide Squad this summer and will debut a Justice League film and Wonder Woman in 2017.

For readers not weaned on comic-book lore, Cyborg is transformed in a science experiment into a half-man, half-machine hero. His metallic prosthetic limbs give him super strength and other enhanced abilities.

The Flash stars Ezra Miller as the title character and is directed by Rick Famuyiwa, who made a stir with the Sundance Film Festival breakout, Dope. The film will begin shooting this year in London, and is expected to open in 2018.

DOPE Actress Kiersey Clemons Cast as Iris West in THE FLASH Movie

RQlyWkD.jpg

Kiersey Clemons has closed a deal to star opposite Ezra Miller in The Flash movie. Variety first reported earlier this month that she was the top choice for the female lead in the Warner Bros. film.

Insiders reveal that Clemons is likely to play Iris West, the tough-as-nails journalist and friend of Barry Allen, the Flash’s alter ego.

The Flash had to overcome the hurdle of replacing the film’s original director, Seth Grahame-Smith, who parted ways with the project over creative differences. Dope helmer Rick Famuyiwa took over directing duties in June. The movie, however, appears to be able to meet its planned start date. Production is expected to commence sometime this year.

The studio is keeping Smith’s most recent draft of the script, which is based on a treatment by Chris Miller and Phil Lord.

Clemons’ star has risen significantly since her breakout performance in Dope. She landed a role as one of Chloe Moretz’s sorority sisters in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, as well as one of the leads in Sony’s remake of Flatliners.

Scene Description of How Batman Recruited The Flash in JUSTICE LEAGUE

CrKPhLq.jpg

Gizmodo also has a breakdown of a scene from the film featuring Bruce Wayne’s initial contact with Barry Allen and recruitment into the Justice League. The site reports Barry Allen returns to his ‘warehouse’-sized apartment to find Bruce Wayne waiting for him and holding a photo of the Flash video we saw in Dawn of Justice. The pair exchange dialogue:

“That’s a person who looks exactly like me but is definitely not,” Allen replies. “Hippie, long hair, very attractive Jewish boy. He drinks milk, I don’t drink milk.” he jokes as Wayne starts to walk over to a red suit standing in the apartment.

“I know you have abilities, I just don’t know what they are,” says Wayne.

“My special skills include viola, web design…” Allen rambles as Wayne examines the suit and notes it’s made of a very specific heat resistant material. “Yeah, I do competitive ice dancing,” Allen says.

“This is the stuff the space shuttle uses to prevent from burning up on reentry.”

“…Very competitive ice dancing?”

Just then, the film turns to slow-motion as Bruce Wayne hurls one of the razor-sharp, bat-logo-shaped throwing stars he used in BvS at Allen. Allen looks at it inquisitively as it passes him in slow motion then, with a profound realization, grabs it out of the air. Silence, surprise, and then: “You’re the Batman?”

“And you’re fast.”

“That feels like an oversimplification.”

Bruce tells Allen he’s putting together a team of people with special abilities because he believes enemies are coming. Barry immediately wants to be part of it, and Batman can’t help but ask why he’s agreed so quickly. “I need friends,” says Barry, just before holding up the throwing-bat/star. “Can I keep this?”

DOPE Helmer Rick Famuyiwa is the New Director of THE FLASH Movie

The Flash has a new director. Just weeks after Warner Bros. parted ways with Seth Grahame-Smith, who was to make his directorial debut with the project, the studio has set another newbie for the gig: Rick Famuyiwa, who made a splash with his Sundance sensation, Dope.

The project will retain Grahame-Smith’s script, which he wrote working off of a treatment by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the Lego Movie duo who once were eyeing it as a possible directing vehicle.

The Flash already has a release date — March 16, 2018 — and a star, Ezra Miller, who's portraying the classic hero known as "the fastest man alive." The actor made his debut in Batman v Superman.

After directing 2002’s Brown Sugar and 2010 romantic comedy Our Family Wedding, Famuyiwa caught the industry’s eye with Dope, the 2015 film that was a breakout at Sundance and won the prize for best editing. He recently helmed HBO’s original film Confirmation, starring Kerry Washington as Anita Hill.

Director Seth Grahame-Smith Drops Out of THE FLASH Over Creative Differences

i461BxC.jpg

The Flash movie has lost its director. Seth Grahame-Smith is leaving the Warner Bros. project due to “creative differences,” THR has learned.

Grahame-Smith, the author and screenwriter of such works as Pride & Prejudice & Zombies and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, was to have made his directorial debut on the project that was based on the iconic DC Entertainment scarlet speedster super hero.

The project will retain Grahame-Smith’s script, which he wrote working off a treatment from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the Lego Movie duo that were once eyeing it as a possible directing vehicle.

Flash already has a release date – March 3, 2018 – and an actor who portrays the classic hero known as "the fastest man alive" – Ezra Miller, and there is plenty of time for the studio to find a director.

Miller’s Flash, aka. Barry Allen, was introduced in a cameo appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and is now shooting Justice League Part 1, which will be released in the summer of 2017.

Possible Supporting Characters and Character Details for THE FLASH Movie

nnNLH8o.png

Are these the 5 characters that'll join the Faster Man Alive in The Flash movie? Heroic Hollywood has a rumored list of characters, based on a casting breakdown sent to talent agencies. They're being cautious, though, even calling it a rumor themselves - when Umberto Gonzalez himself says to be cautious, you know he's not sure about it.

IRIS WEST: Iris West is described in the breakdown as having Christiane Amanpour’s brains and Carrie Bradshaw’s style. An overcaffinated doe. A reporter at The Central City Citizen. Actresses are currently testing for this part.

EOBARD THAWNE: Eobard Thawne is described as Central City’s Bill Gates. The smartest man in the room and he suffers from advanced degenerative disease like Stephen Hawking. Thawne is confined to a chair.

FRED CHYRE: Fred Chyre is described as a gruff detective who first meets Barry at the scene of a crime. Now they’re colleagues and the closest thing Barry has to a friend. Chryre is investigating the unusual death of someone at Thawne Laboratories

LEN SNART: Len Snart is described as being ex-military and turns out to be working for Thawne. Have a feeling he is the muscle the way Anatoli Knyazev (aka the KGBEAST) was the muscle for Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

JAY GARRICK: Jay Garrick is described as being a former Central University professor who was fired for fringe science, and was working on the speed force program. Supposedly his role is just a cameo.

Rumor: Are These The 5 Supporting Characters Currently Being Cast For 'The Flash' Movie?

Producer Charles Roven Reiterates FLASH TV and Movie Universe are Separate

tftXsY0.jpg

Warner Bros. is building its own inter-connected universe on the feature film side, and much as fans may clamor to bring the TV iteration of the character into that fold, they remain two wholly separate worlds. Producer Charles Roven, who is part of the DC Cinematic Universe Brain Trust and is a producer on The Flash movie, recently confirmed this separation to Collider during an interview:

"Our Flash is gonna be not that guy. [Gustin is] terrific in doing [what he’s doing]. I think that whether it’s The Flash or Arrow, they’re doing a great job with the TV shows they’re doing. Gotham, that show’s really terrific. And we obviously wish them the best."

"It’s gonna be interesting to see what happens when we have a different Flash in a different universe. We’re gonna try to stay in our universe and they’re gonna be staying, I think, in their universe, and hopefully the audiences will embrace both. I think they can. You know, Supergirl is not in our universe, and that seems to be doing quite well."

Ezra Miller's The Flash is expected to at least make a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The Flash solo movie isn’t slated for release until March 2018 so it’ll be a while before we see Miller’s version get his own story, but Roven revealed that the film is now firmly hashing out its story: "We are in the script stage. Early, early, early in the script stage."

THE FLASH Suit Will Reportedly Be Tech-Based to Distance Itself from TV Show

xxv9ViL.png

The Flash movie isn't out until 2018, which means it's rather too early for Warner Bros to begin the drip-feed of early images and other details. What is known so far is Ezra Miller is in the lead as The Flash himself, and that screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith is making his debut as director on the movie. He'll also be writing the script, based on a story previously worked on by Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

Den of Geek also recently learned, thanks to a source who has inside information on the movie, that the makers behind The Flash have a quite specific look in mind as they design the superhero's outfit. Understandably, they're seeking to avoid any comparison to the well designed and received TV version. To ring the changes, they're aiming to create a more "tech-based" suit that will look quite different from the burgundy leather outfit designed by Colleen Atwood for the series. Instead, this one will look more like an armor.

The design choice seems to fit with the rest of the DC Extended Universe we've seen so far; Superman's costume in Man Of Steel was all muted tones and tough, kevlar-like texture. In Batman V Superman, meanwhile, we'll be seeing the Caped Crusader wear both a classic cloth outfit and a heavily-armoured Batsuit - all the better for taking on the Son of Jor-El. Even the Wonder Woman costume we've seen so far has a weighty, armour-like feel to it - though as we recently learned, this may not be the only outfit the warrior princess will wear through the course of the movie.

According to Den of Geek's source, Ezra Miller's Barry Allen is now something of a "tech geek", which also seems logical given his day-job - that of a forensic scientist. Of course, The Flash is still three years away, and things may change as Grahame-Smith guides the film to completion, but we're intrigued to see what the big-screen take will look like.

Seth Grahame-Smith to Write and Direct THE FLASH Movie for Warner Bros.

hg9yRQS.jpg

Seth Grahame-Smith is in negotiations to direct and write The Flash, Warner Bros.' comic book movie based on the iconic DC Entertainment scarlet speedster super hero, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie project has a treatment from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the Lego Movie duo that were also eyeing it as a possible directing vehicle.

Instead, the busy duo is headed to a galaxy far, far away (in this case just down the street to Disney) to tackle the Han Solo Star Wars movie, thus instigating a new search for a helmer.

Flash already has a release date – March 3, 2018 – and an actor who portrays the classic hero known as "the fastest man alive" – Ezra Miller. Miller’s Flash, aka. Barry Allen, is due to be introduced in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and then more prominently in Justice League Part 1, which will be released in the summer of 2017.

The Flash is already generating awareness in the form of a hit television series on the CW.

Charles Roven is producing the movie. Deborah and Zack Snyder are executive producing.

Grahame-Smith is the author of such genre mash-up best-sellers as Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. But he also also made a name for himself as a screenwriter, especially at Warners, where he is writing Lego Batman.

Flash would be Grahame-Smith’s feature directorial debut, although he has directed episodes of The Hard Times of RJ Berger, an MTV comedy he co-created with his producing partner David Katzenberg.

Ezra Miller Reveals What He Thinks of The CW's FLASH Television Series

AyTnKqE.jpg

In a new interview with MTV, Justice League: Part One actor Ezra Miller, slated to play Barry Allen in The Flash in 2019, gave a little bit of insight into how he perceives the character, what makes his version of Barry tick...and just what he thinks of Grant Gustin playing the Scarlet Speedster on TV at the same time he's developing a movie take.

"Barry Allen is the Silver Age, who follows a lot of interesting discoveries in physics," Miller said. "Where he comes from is, we figured out the event horizon was there, and then he was the character who was created through our mythos machine of comic books to break that event horizon so we could explore in fantasy, and I think that's an interesting idea. And what's an interesting idea to me is, what does that do to someone?"

"I'm not avoiding it," Miller said of The CW's The Flash. "I'm not avoiding it at all. I think it's awesome! And come on -- we're The Flash. It's parallel universes. Grant Gustin is The Flash, and I'm The Flash, don't you see? It's the event horizon, we crossed it, baby. Grant and I are chillin'. We're going to have a race. It's gonna be dope. Like Jay Garrick and Barry Allen back in the day."

Phil Lord Reiterates Ezra Miller is Playing Barry Allen in THE FLASH Movie

u4Xf2EY.png

A movie about The Flash will be a bit tricky for a number of reasons. The most obvious is that there is currently a popular television series based on the character, but WB has already hired their star (Ezra Miller) and penciled in a released date (March 23, 2018). Lord and Miller are developing the story, with a chance that they will direct it. Lord acknowledges that Grant Gustin is already making a name for himself as Barry Allen/The Flash but won't let that keep them from using Barry in their solo film.

"We’re trying to break a story. It’s interesting, because there’s a really popular TV show out there, and we’re trying to carve out space for the movie that’s apart from that. I think we’re doing alright. … I believe [our Flash] is going to be Barry Allen," Lord revealed. "It’s going to be it’s own [thing, apart from the TV show] — we’re more trying to stick with the cinematic universe… it really is its own thing, and kind of a stand-alone movie. We’re just trying to think of the best story. I think you guys will like it, it’s kind of a different take on superhero stuff."

Besides working on The Flash movie, Lord and Miller are developing an animated feature film for Spider-Man. That's a lot on their plate, can they handle it? "We’re sort of juggling superheroes with the color red in them, that’s all we do," Lord said. "We’re trying not to confuse their powers or anything, but it does get tricky. But it’s the same thing, is there a way to do one of these movies in a new way? That’s the exciting thing about it being animated, is it opens up a lot of different possibilities."

Lord added, "They’re part of these huge franchises, but kind of are off a little bit to the side, and that gives us a lot of creative freedom, and that’s the thing we love. Hopefully we won’t waste that!"

Phil Lord and Chris Miller Officially Writing the Script for THE FLASH Movie

2VOvayQ.jpg

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the duo behind The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street and its sequel 22 Jump Street, are helping out The Flash. The writer-directors are working on a treatment for Warner Bros' big screen adaptation of the DC comic. Ezra Miller has been cast to star in The Flash, which centers on super-speedy superhero Barry Allen. It's slated for release on Mar 23, 2018.

The character, whose origins began in 1940, have been part of the Justice League at DC Comics and has been given small-screen and feature treatments before, but with Lord and Miller on the case, The Flash will take on a totally different dimension.

Sources say the Lord and Miller had been interested in being involved with The Flash since 2014. However, the duo, who also write and produce Fox's hit comedy The Last Man on Earth, are not officially signed on to direct the project. They haven't yet announced their next directorial project, but they're producing several things in development right now including The Lego Batman Movie, Ninjago, 23 Jump Street and the Lego Movie sequel.

Ezra Miller's First Public Comments After He was Announced as THE FLASH

SwSRkE9.jpg

In October, Warner Brothers made it official when they announced that Ezra Miller (We Need to Talk About Kevin, The Perks of Being a Wallflower) will play the big screen version The Flash in their DC Comics cinematic universe. Since then we haven't heard anything from Miller about getting the part, until now. The Hollywood Reporter chatted with the actor at Sundance and he happily recalled the moment he learned he snagged it.

"Zack Snyder told me on the phone that he wanted me to play the Flash while I was eating a tilapia in a small Central American village. That was definitely a moment that prompted me to question the fabric of my reality."

The news ruffled a few feathers as fans have embraced Grant Gustin as The Flash on the CW television series [but majority disliked the casting because the actor looks "odd" for the part]. Miller's announcement was made as WB was releasing their comic book movie schedule for the next five years. The Flash will get his first solo film March 23, 2018 but might first appear in Justice League: Part 1 which will open November 23, 2017.

THE FLASH Movie Announced for 2018 Release with Ezra Miller Cast as the Lead

9u2fsSh.jpg

The Flash will make his way to the big screen in 2018, with actor Ezra Miller taking on the lead role. During Time Warner's earnings meeting Wednesday, Warner Bros. chairman Kevin Tsujihara announced that the studio would be making a feature about the comic book superhero starring the Perks of Being a Wallflower actor. The story centers on Barry Allen, a man with super-speed and super-fast reflexes.

The CW recently launched the TV series The Flash, starring Grant Gustin. The show has been a big hit for the network, with the premiere episode marking The CW's highest-rated opener since The Vampire Diaries in 2009. But Warner Bros. is recasting for its big screen project. The move indicated that there do not seem to be plans for have actors from The CW shows cross over into the big-screen versions.

Tsujihara officially announced a slew of DC projects including Suicide Squad (2016), Wonder Woman (2017), Justice League Part One (2017), Aquaman (2018), Shazam! (2019), Justice League Part Two (2019), Cyborg (2020) and Green Lantern (2020).

Miller did memorable work in the drama We Need to Talk About Kevin and YA adaptation The Perks of Being a Wallflower. His upcoming films include Judd Apatow's Trainwreck and indie The Stanford Prison Experiment.

Ezra Miller as The Flash is a bit of an odd choice.

For those that don't know him, he has starred in We Need to Talk About Kevin and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

I don't like Ezra as The Flash. He doesn't seem like the right fit.

Of all the Movies, The Flash is the most interesting to me.

On the face of it, though, this looks like a terrible casting decision.

So if they've re-cast The Flash for the movies I guess there's no chance Stephen Amell plays the Green Arrow in the movies.

Yeah, the Arrow producer previously mentioned that The CW's Arrow (or any of the DC television shows for that matter) won't be part of DC Cinematic Universe.

In case you were wondering which Flash would he be playing, THR confirms that Ezra Miller is playing Barry Allen.

Are they going to remake Green Lantern?
Yep, The new GL movie seems to be a reboot.

They should just pick my fancast for The Flash.

He already has the perfect last name for the role.

Dragonlord's Superhero Fantasy Casting Vol. 6: JUSTICE LEAGUE

Warner Bros. is finally getting their act together and trepidly form their DC Cinematic Universe due to the box office success of Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. With WB's planned Justice League movie supposedly coming out in 2017, I thought it was time I did my next Superhero Fantasy Casting on DC's premiere superhero team. Back in 2010, I made my first casting on the League and surprisingly almost every choice still holds up to this day. Normally I only cast six actors per edition but I had so much fun with this one that the casting ballooned to eighteen characters. Take note that not all 18 superheroes will appear in one film and I avoided choosing actors that are already cast in another comic book movie. So without further delay, I present to you the ultimate Justice League cast:
