He has the most complete skill-set of any MMA fighter today, regardless of the 'manlet' hate he gets here.

He's also cool as fuck. Which may be the issue.

Loud-mouth Douches seem to get the most fans nowadays. That said, they could market the heck out of him with fight high-lights alone, if they wanted to.

They seem to be trying to market him now (calling him the greatest fighter ever after UFC 216), but I don't think his personality will allow him to be a good star, at least not nowadays. Beating BWs will help, but even then he won't be Lesnar, Ronda, Jones, or Conor big. Perhaps Sonnen's idea of MM becoming the bad guy would work?

To be honest there are a lot of problems with Mouse and why he doesn't sell....

There becomes a point when small is just too small. 125 Ibs is same weight as a normal sized 13 year old boy. Its grossly underweight and famished.

The division is awful, he fights cans. No one knows his opponents and hence don't take it seriously.

He has no personality, he just repeats himself so much and rehashes the same lines over and over again in interviews.

He has defended the belt a lot of times on Free cards, UFC Fight Nights, so no one feels they have to pay for him.

He ain't no KO artist, apart from 1 fight. just wins with scrambles and wrestling positions

LOL we've been down this road before you and I. Remember you waived the white flag. DJ isn't marketable because no one cares to see him outside of a few hardcores..They are not going to make money off of his fights and at best he is a co-main event material if there aren't already 2 other championship fights on the same card and even the women take precedence. Face it no one cares about this guy outside a handful of people and that's been proven over and over.

Also number 1 p4p fighter on the planet is Jones regardless of what you think about him outside the octagon.

Just a heads up for the future.

Fighters in the UFC can't be the best on the planet because they have strict rules. You can juice and do all kinds of crazy shit in real life, so the best fighter on the planet is probably not fighting in sanctioned competition.

I think they've pushed him a little too much, especially when you considered that they tend to push loudmouths the most.

IMO the effort they put behind him, even labeling him p4p GOAT to get people to bite, they could have used it promoting some of the contenders at LW or other divisions.

These are important points to acknowledge, and all true.

This isn't a stats debate. Stats say MM should be a superstar, but stats have this strange way of telling an incomplete narrative.

It isn't fair, and it really shouldn't be the case, but MM will never be a real star.

That doesn't speak to his MMA (fighting) legacy but it does speak to business.
