Without seeing statistics I would guess a good chunk of children born to mothers denied abortions also engaged in use of government social services past the age of 18. I have no issue with social services. I take issue with those who want to claim they're pro life while once the child is boring wishing that child pull him/herself up by boot straps

they aren't aiming that view at the kid, but the parent that clearly chose to have a kid they can't afford w / a dad that's likely out of the picture

The kid isn't being held accountable, the parent is in their view.....

I don't think the religious right has lost any power.

If anything, they've become a more homogeneous voting block, which makes them a stronger force than ever in electoral politics.

There is a very strong mathematical argument-- summarized and popularized in the book Freakanomics-- that the falling violent crime trend in the US from the late 1990's onward correlates more strongly to the legalization of abortion a generation earlier than it does to any other single factor.

That's a good point. You would think so. This could be an area where the 17 person primary field really f'd up all normal probabilities.

But whatever their feelings during the primaries, the religious right rallied around Donald Trump bigly in the general election-- they are the most homogeneous voting bloc of any religious group by far.

surprised it is not higher. There can be biblical arguments for abortion and it never addressed in NT or OT, the idea that life begin at conception is also kind of new thing. Not abortion on demand but you got to be heartless and probably some older ´religious´ man to be anti abortion completely. I seen you guys post some stories of some crazy american politicians who agaisnt abortion even for rape or extreme circumstances.

lol not even catholic wild brazil or mexico is that low on the empathy scale. Most people can reason it should be allowed for medical, health, rape reasons.

the crazy thing about the NT is that he could legit be a christian and go to heaven while you go to hell. Trump could even find religious texts which support much of his behavior except the cheating on wives and maybe some other shady stuff but it okay because he can be forgiven because jesus.

From the OP: Interestingly, there was no statistical difference between men and women in overall support of abortions-- except that men were about 5% more likely to support late stage abortions.

13% is not what I would call a tiny minority. That is a significant percentage.
Are those same people considered as part of the 60% and 28%?

i know a woman who was raped, carried the baby full term, gave it up for adoption at birth, and now that rape child has reunited with his step siblings and they have a great relationship.

I'm not a bible thumper, but to be advocating for/ promoting abortion in 2018 is insane to me.

So do the words, "I'm vegan." Or, "I'm socialist." Truth is, pretty much every stripe of American loves moral judgments and telling others how to live. I'm not excusing Christians, but it is funny how they get singled out so often when others are as bad or worse.
