A video has gone viral of a man wielding a closed pocketknife in front of a teenager during a PTA meeting at a high school on Wednesday, after the school suspended multiple students for peacefully protesting during National School Walkout Day.

Student Jo Herman, who attends Rocky Point High School in Long Island, New York, posted the video on Twitter. It shows a man in a heated discussion with a student during a PTA meeting on Wednesday.

“I protested peacefully this morning and got suspended. A man threatened a kid with a knife at a PTA meeting and got gently escorted from the school. Show me the logic,” Herman wrote.

A Long Island man terrified students and others by pulling out a knife to demonstrate why he believed schools should have armed security guards.

The man took out the pocket knife during a face-to-face confrontation with a student Wednesday during a public meeting in Rocky Point on school safety, reported Newsday.

“I’m considerably larger than you, OK?” the man tells the student in cell phone video recorded during the incident. “If something happened, if I decided to attack you, it would take the cops three to five minutes to come here — probably 10 if the traffic’s bad.”

The man, whose name was not released, apparently disagreed with 17-year-old senior Jade Pinkenberg, who spoke up during the school board meeting to argue against arming teachers.

“What are you going to do now?” the man says, as the teen backs away.

Pinkenburg’s father and others shouted to tell the man to stop, and school security escorted the man out of the meeting.

“I had no idea what was happening,” Pinkenburg said. “He was in my face a bit and I didn’t know what he was about to do. When I realized, I kind of jumped back. My legs got weak and my heart was beating fast.”

School officials asked the school resource officer to file a report with police, who are investigating the incident.

“A parent in attendance attempted to conduct a demonstration to reinforce his belief that all school districts” should have armed security guards,” said superintendent Michael Ring in a statement to parents. “While the district firmly acknowledges that the demonstration was ill-conceived and inappropriate for the venue, we believe that the act was not intended to compromise the safety of those in attendance.”

Some students were angry about how school officials handled the parent’s demonstration compared to their own earlier that same day, when some were suspended for taking part in the national school walkout.

“I protested peacefully this morning and got suspended,” student Jo Herman tweeted. “A man threatened a kid with a knife at a PTA meeting and got gently escorted from the school. Show me the logic.”

He should have pulled a knife on that teenager. That was the right thing to do.

Lol at getting escorted out gently. No wonder kids are pissed.

Someone should have mollywopped him in the back of the head to make the scenario informative.

I'm so outraged that a large man with a knife was able to be peacefully talked down and escorted out without any further escalation of violence.

Wow. Much outrage.

The only way to stop a good guy with a pocketknife is with a gooder guy with a gun

Now post the article of the kid getting beat up and spit on because he was holding a pro 2nd sign, make sure you’re covering all the spectrums here

im going to intimidate a child at a meeting to make a point, hmmm, i wonder who he voted for?

Can someone cliff the whys, whats and hows of that "debate"

That's assault.

Charge this mother fucker and ban him from school grounds.

Sounds like a thread you should start instead of sobbing in this one.

Read the articles.

Such sophistication. Do you have any kids yourself? What that guy did was totally inappropriate.

In all seriousness, what was the kid going to do?

A bunch of snowflakes overreact to an important point being made. Shocking.

Shit thread title too since a knife was not "pulled". Displayed as a visual aid would be more accurate.

Justice will prevail. With that said, what picture are you trying to paint here?

That if you actually read the article you'd know that I was laughing at a witty comment by a student, not being snarky because the man got away unscathed

What part was illegal? I watched the video. He never opened the pocket knife, he held it the long way between his index finger and thumb. Never pointed it at the student, and held it up in a non-threatening way.

He made a completely valid point. He was in the school within arms reach of the kid, and there was no good way to stop him. That knife could have been a gun, and there wasn't a single thing that could have been done to stop him. It was shocking, but that was the point of what he was doing. It was very eye opening to everybody in that school I guarantee it.
