First TOMB RAIDER Plot Synopsis and Official Images of Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft

Alicia-Vikander-as-Lara-Croft-Tomb-Raider-02.jpg

In these first-look images, see Alicia Vikander take on the role made famous first in the video-game series and then in the two films starring Angelina Jolie. But this version of Lara comes with a new backstory, and a new motivation for her adventures:

Seven years after the disappearance of her father, 21-year-old Lara has refused to take the reins of his global business empire, instead working as a bike courier in London while taking college classes. Eventually she becomes inspired to investigate her father’s disappearance and travels to his last-known location: a tomb on an island somewhere off the coast of Japan.

Suddenly, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Lara, who—against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit—must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown. If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name Tomb Raider.

New Lara Croft Actress Alicia Vikander Loved Playing Tomb Raider Video Game

Actress Alicia Vikander will be embodying the role of Tomb Raider Lara Croft in the forthcoming reboot of the film franchise, and while she is physically prepared for the role, she's also prepared as a fan.

That's because when she was younger she made a habit of playing the original games against her parent's wishes. In an interview with Total Film (via GameRant), the actress said: “I kept it secret – I didn’t have many girlfriends who shared that interest, but I really loved it. I did play Tomb Raider back then, even though my parents said I wasn’t allowed to.”

While Vikander didn't say which Tomb Raider games she like best, she did talk about her past as a dancer, and how that has helped with the training for the film.

“I danced for many years. I really enjoy the aspect of being able to work with my physicality. In one way, I can probably do that unconsciously. But in this, it’s going to be a whole other level. It’s always wonderful when you get the chance to try things out that you never thought you would be able to do, to push yourself and your boundaries.”

Daisy Ridley Eyed for Lara Croft in New TOMB RAIDER Movie

Daisy-Ridley-Tomb-Raider-031016a-Dragonlord.jpg

Newcomer Daisy Ridley may have hit the motherlode of film franchises when the then-virtual unknown was cast in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but the 23-year-old Brit actress is in the running for another cinematic icon: Lara Croft.

Deadline understands that the fresh-faced Ridley is one of a number of actresses being considered for the Tomb Raider reboot that Warner Bros and MGM are partnering on to produce and release, with GK Films’ Graham King producing.

While conversations have taken place, this is still very early and there have been no official negotiations or offer yet with the producers keeping their options wide open at this stage. This is one of THE plum gigs out there for a young actress.

The latest adaptation, which has been in development for a number of years, received a jolt of adrenaline when the video game series was rebooted by game developer Square Enix with 2013’s Tomb Raider, which depicted Croft’s first adventure as an archaeology student and follow-up Rise of the Tomb Raider. That younger take on the character’s origin and path to derring-do are believed to have given the film’s producers some creative guidance.

Accepting the fact that in 2016 we will not get an overly-exagerated Lara Croft as she is supposed to be then this is a damn good choice.

With the right RP accent she would be missing only one key aspect of Crofts character.

Lara is NOT an A cup. Max I'll give you a well proportioned C on a small frame.

Face suits.

I actually find it ridiculous how they made the new gen lara more averagely proportioned. It's entirely possible for young women to have nearly all their fat deposits on their chests, combining ridiculous boob sizes with flat stomachs.

Such fortunate proportions give them a certain "personality" that was inherent to Lara's character.

but in all seriousness. Good for her. She's definitely a stunner, and will do well in the role.
