This desensitization is global. What makes school shootings a very American thing?Desensitization is in part to blame for our growing disregard for human life among young people.

Come on man, Hostile or any other horror movie is rated R, but Zach and Mirri make a porno is NC-17?
More problems with the ratings system then editing.
where is this "moral decline"? There is less violent crime, teen pregnancy, teen alcohol/drug use, divorce and abortion than in the 20th century. Basically all the metrics that conservatives use to gauge "morality" in society- the only two stats that support their panic are the falling marriage rates and church attendance. Those actually are tanking hard.Guns have been around for hundreds of years.
You think the rise in school shootings in recent decades has nothing to do with the rapid evolution in culture regarding games, music, movies, violence, and general moral decline?
Grow up.
Pornography works your mind in a different way than video games do, I think. Your brain changes on the chemical and neurological level. But there could be similarities, probably in the form of desensitization and gratification addiction.well they have proven that pornography warps the mind and changes and destroys you.
but not video games that are violent? i wonder why that is. it seem both right and some on left can agree that pornography and so much stuff out there is destructive but wonder why. maybe killing a human is harder than people think but having a depraved sexual mind is easier?

That's what I'm saying. The MPAA requests arbitrary edits, to cut a movie's content down, so it passes their standard of when it becomes okay to bring kids to it. It's ridiculous, because no amount of cut content to something like "SAW" or "Hostel" will ever make those flicks appropriate to bring your 8 year old to see. R should mean "Adults only", period.
"Zack & Miri" is actually a really good example of how silly the whole process is, if you ever heard Kevin Smith talk about the ridiculous shit the MPAA was requesting. One scene in particular they were arguing over, was Jay and that porn star fucking in the diner. The MPAA thought there were "too many thrusts", as if 4 or 5 thrusts was okay, but anything over that put it into NC17 territory. It makes absolutely no sense. .
I don't think movies are really an issue at all. It was just a good point he made, if he had made it for a completely different reason. Lol.
The video game thing actually does weird me out though. The games are just ridiculously violent now, and the kids are actually controlling people while they commit mass murder.
Why does a young kid have to do this? I had plenty of fun playing Mario.

Young men of previous times were forced to handle the pressure of actual combat, while coming back home to live a civilian life afterwards. I think our generation can handle video games.
