Trump plans to stop disaster relief funds to Puerto Rico


President Donald Trump reportedly plans to stop financial aid to millions of Americans in Puerto Rico still dealing with the devastating effects of Hurricane Maria.

The president believes, without evidence, that the Puerto Rican government is using the disaster relief funds to pay off debt rather than help its citizens rebuild, according to Axios.

The island nation is still rebuilding after Maria’s destruction more than a year ago; most of the country waited almost 11 months for power to be restored and thousands of people are still displaced after their homes were destroyed.

Trump was initially reluctant to send money to Puerto Rico and has continually complained about having to do so since.

His recent outburst stems from an October article in The Wall Street Journal, according to Axios, that Trump mistakenly assumed said that the Puerto Rican government was misusing the relief funds.

Instead, the newspaper reported that the federal oversight board simply raised the possibility of hedge funds restructuring the country’s debt and help it out of bankruptcy court.

I hope Trump isn't actually doing this because he stupidly misinterpreted an article he read in the Wall Street Journal. It just seems weird how all news concerning him is fake news, but the news concerning others are always spot-on and accurate. If these politicians are misusing disaster relief funds then the President should have them investigated and if they're found to be misusing funds prosecuted. He shouldn't be punishing American Citizens that are dealing with the aftermath of a catastrophe simply because politicans aren't doing as he would like them to do.

That’s already happened. I posted the article here quite some time ago. Should send the army in to build buildings then leave.
 
There's a million reasons why he would do this, and not one is because of that article. I've narrowed it down to two reasons: one being he doesn't know puerto rico is an american territory and doesn't care, two being they have brown skin and he still doesn't care.

Either way here come his flock of idiots to defend every move he makes, no matter how stupid.

No, if that is happening, the people responsible should be punished and replaced with people capable of making sure the funds are used as needed.

The average citizen who has had their life washed away by mother nature should not be punished for corrupt/inept beauracracies.

Unfortunately, this only punishes the citizens and those who really need the help.

The government officials who have misappropriated funds should be held accountable and/or removed

If the money is not getting to help people, it does no good to send it. You're just making a few corrupt people rich.

It's not helping the people it was intended to help anyway. So cut it off.
 
It's amazing, the morally supine positions the Trump fans here will go to defend and obfuscate for the President, no matter what he does. The Trump camp is in need of a "The guru is having me buy vanilla ice cream, the fuck?" moment soon.

Easier to crush an island of poor psuedo-mexicans than the richest state in the country. All it would take is Newsome to show Trump's admin the same mercy he showed his buddy whose wife he plowed on the campaign trail.

Really shows Trump is a paper champ because you're right- Ca defying the feds with sanctuary cities(and drivers licenses, healthcare, welfare, etc). for illegals is without a doubt much more a legit defiance than anything going on in PR.
