JEAN-CLAUDE VAN JOHNSON, I LOVE DICK, ONE MISSISSIPPI Cancelled at Amazon

Amazon Studios is cleaning house. The retail giant and streaming platform has opted to cancel comedies One Mississippi, I Love Dick and Jean-Claude Van Johnson. The news comes hours after Amazon renewed half-hour The Tickfor a second season.

Amazon — which, like fellow streamers Netflix and Hulu, does not release viewership information — is in the midst of a search for a new executive to lead its original programming efforts after Roy Price and his top lieutenant Joe Lewis were ousted amid sexual harassment and conflict of interest allegations, respectively. In the interim, Amazon Studios chief operating officer Albert Cheng has taken over for Price, while Sharon Tal Yguado has been overseeing scripted originals after being hired to focus on genre programming.

On the creative side, Amazon late last year launched The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which has become an awards-season darling. The company also signed Maisel creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino as well as Catastrophe's Sharon Horgan to overall deals. Jill Soloway, who created I Love Dick, remains in business with Amazon with Transparent and an overall deal as well. (The future of Transparent remains murky following harassment allegations surrounding star Jeffrey Tambor, who recently backtracked on his comments that he was quitting the critical favorite.)

One Mississippi, created by, starring and inspired by the life of comedian Tig Notaro, was produced by FX Productions and Louis C.K. Disgraced comedian C.K. was fired by FXP, with Amazon now cutting ties with Notaro, who had been outspoken about the man who executive produced her show amid allegations and his subsequent admission to years of sexually harassing women. The series ran for two seasons. Dropping the comedy will no doubt help further distance Amazon, which has its own PR to repair, from C.K.

Jean-Claude Van Johnson, marking the series-regular debut of Jean-Claude Van Damme, ran for one season and starred the big-screen actor as a version of himself — a famous actor and martial-arts pro who comes out of retirement to resume his alter-ego: an undercover private contractor by the name of Jean-Claude Van Johnson. Van Damme starred and exec produced alongside The Expendables' Dave Callaham. The comedy hailed from Scott Free Television's Ridley Scott and David Zucker. Jean-Claude Van Johnson launched in December to poor reviews.

I Love Dick, meanwhile, marked Soloway's follow-up series to Transparent. THR chief TV critic Tim Goodman ranked the series as one of the worst of 2017, calling it "an unlikable, pretentious mess that was actually grueling to watch." Kevin Bacon starred alongside Kathryn Hahn. Bacon, meanwhile, has already booked his next TV gig, signing on for Showtime pilot City on a Hill.

NBC to Revive THE OFFICE for Another Season; Steve Carell Will Not Return

Hot on the success of the return of Will & Grace, NBC is looking to revive another of its beloved comedies: The Office.

Sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter that the network is looking to bring back the former Steve Carell starrer for another season. Carell, however, will not return. A search is underway to find a new star to take over as the show's Michael Scott-like regional manager of paper supply company Dunder Mifflin. NBC and producers Universal Television declined comment. TV Line was first to report the news.

Sources told THR in August that The Office may be revived with a new cast and creator Greg Daniels attached. At the time, NBC and producers Universal Television said those rumors were not true. That speculation has now grown more real as the network is said to be in talks for a revival.

The Office ran for nine seasons on NBC as part of the network's Thursday comedy brand. The show — which made stars out of Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Craig Robinson, Ellie Kemper and Mindy Kaling, among others — was an awards-season staple, taking home multiple Emmys, Golden Globes and other top prizes. Carell exited after season seven, with The Office continuing on for two additional cycles before the star returned for the series finale in 2013.

Mid-Season 4 Trailer for STAR WARS REBELS Teases Emperor Palpatine

Finished THE END OF THE F***ING WORLD and overall it's good. The main characters might be nasty and acerbic but underneath it all, it's a sweet, awkward romantic coming-of-age drama at its core.

@lordsai

I'm a few "eps" in. I use quotation marks because as I've seen others say, this seems like it was just clearly a movie that they did some extremely basic/quick recuts/reshoots to make it a "show".

I like it, it's definitely good (not great). But I think I'd like it better if it were a movie and they cut some of the extraneous material. But who knows, maybe I'd have thought it was a shit movie.

Teaser Trailer for HBO's PATERNO Starring Al Pacino as Joe Paterno

After becoming the winningest coach in college football history, Paterno’s legacy is challenged and he is forced to face questions of institutional failure. Academy Award® and Emmy® Award winner Al Pacino returns to HBO in the title role, as Penn State’s Joe Paterno in the aftermath of the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal.

Only 2 episodes have aired yet for Magicians season 3 but the show is killing it right now. Elliot's adventures in Fillory and the appearance of his teenage daughter were entertaining. Love the references to Angel and Buffy.

Pacino is really taking on some interesting real-life characters in the last number of years. Definitely nice to see more of that and less of Righteous Kill / Misconduct.

THE MIGHTY DUCKS TV Series in the Works from Original Trilogy Screenwriter

The Mighty Ducks franchise may be coming to the small screen. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that ABC Signature Studios is in early development for a series based on the 1990s dramedy about a youth hockey team. A network is not yet attached.

Sources tell THR that ABC Signature head Tracy Underwood, always looking to identify Disney titles and intellectual property that can appeal to a global audience, put Mighty Ducks in development after being approached by original trilogy screenwriter Steven Brill and original producer Jordan Kerner. Brill will pen the script in-house for ABC Signature. If that comes in well, ABC Signature would package the project with talent and shop it to streamers this year. Brillstein Entertainment's George Heller and Brad Petrigala will, like Brill, be credited as EPs.

Feature film star Emilio Estevez is not currently attached as a script has not yet been written. What remains unclear is if the potential Mighty Ducks TV series is a sequel or reboot as the logline for the half-hour or hour project is being kept under wraps.

Sources stress that the Mighty Ducks TV show is in its early stages and will not be taken out anytime soon. As for a potential home, insiders note that ABC Signature could take the project out to other broadcast or cable networks in addition to shopping it to streaming platforms. (Another option could be to keep it in-house and set it up on Disney's forthcoming stand-alone SVOD service that will be home to Marvel and Star Wars movies as well as original scripted TV shows based on Star Wars, High School Musical and Monsters, Inc.)

The Mighty Ducks was released in 1992 by Walt Disney Pictures. Produced on a budget of $10 million, the Stephen Herek-directed movie starred Estevez as Gordon Bombay, a Minneapolis attorney who winds up coaching a pee-wee hockey team as community service after a drunk-driving arrest. Despite negative reviews from critics, the film went on to be a box-office hit, grossing $50.7 million domestic. That led to two sequels — 1994's D2: The Mighty Ducks (with Estevez) and 1996's D3: The Mighty Ducks, which was built around original film star Josh Jackson's Charlie Conway. They grossed $45.6 million and $22.9 million, respectively, with the success of the first feature inspiring producers Disney to name Anaheim's 1993 NHL expansion team after the franchise.

Should the ABC Signature effort come to fruition, it would be the second time The Mighty Ducks has been explored for the small screen. An animated series was launched in 1996 on ABC and as part of its syndicated programming block The Disney Afternoon. The 26-episode series last aired on Toon Disney in 2004.

Reboots continue to remain in high demand as broadcast, cable and streaming services look for proven IP in a bid to cut through a cluttered scripted landscape that is expected to top 500 shows in 2019. Key to them is having the original producers attached, which Mighty Ducks has with Brill and Kerner, as well as ownership of the IP.

I wanted a sequel with Joshua Jackson as the coach, but I'll take this.

Quack, quack, quack...

Haven't seen the premiere of Counterpart, any good?

Haven't seen the premiere of Counterpart, any good?

I thought Counterpart had a solid first episode. It was fun watching the two J.K. Simmons interact, especially the spy agent version. Makes me want to watch more.
