UFC 225 - Whittaker vs Romero 2 - Chicago

Wasn’t organized crime the reason for the Kuntz/Bang attempted rigging?

Yeah, in South Korea. Allegedly Bang originally agreed to fix the fight and the mob over there bet about 1.7m on Kuntz. The UFC saw the line spike, and talked to both guys prior to the fight and said if either looked to be not fighting, they'd be investigated. Well, Bang won by dec but got investigated anyway. Turns out he evidently took like $90k from organized crime to throw the fight, then supposedly bet half on Kuntz or something too LOL. Then when the UFC said they were watching it close, he changed his mind and decided to fight for real. The mob supposedly made threats on his life too.

I think in East Asia organized crime still has more access to this type of stuff and is far more willing to try it than in the U.S. though.
