It started after GSP got upset by Serra, he started going to a sports psychologist and Rashad started going with him.

The theory behind the nip tweaking was that if they embarrassed themselves before the fight then they would not have to worry about anything in the fight, something of that nature.

So GSP and Rashad started it and then pretty much all of the Jackson’s fighters started doing it as well.
