I've never seen any of the literature handed out in my city (toronto), so fair enough, if that's what it says. I know they are decentralized. I really can't comment on what their purpose, I've never attended one (that was just something I had read). Assuming it was true, I don't think it's a terrible image for homosexuality any more than mardi gras would be a terrible image for people in general. Or, a better way of saying it, I don't think people should draw their conclusions about homosexuality (or people) as a whole from one day. It's not like this is their one chance to hit us with their sales pitch. They're just having fun in a way that is not really permissible on other days of the year.
I just don't get this comparisons to Mardi Gras. It's not a celebration of heterosexuality or anything. There are lots of big gay events at Mardi Gras. I guess I shouldn't be surprised tho that that the Canadians in the thread are bringing it up. An army of Canadians go down to Mardi Gras although I've never seen it advertised as a celebration of the heterosexual lifestyle
And I agree with you. My whole point is that these marches don't present a positive image of gay folks to me. The screaming political activists or the exhibitionists in leather vests and chaps. That's why I commented that I think they have become dated and no longer serve the purpose they might have had at one time.
