The UN Human Rights Council is actually a joke, not just because Trump has called it a joke. If you really read into them and what they've been doing, and who is involved in the decision-making, they're an embarrassment to their original purpose. A tool for the Arab states to basically air their grievances, against other countries (most especially Israel) and even each other (shot down Qatar's "vice-presidency" just a while ago).

I've got nothing wrong with condemning Israel. But surely, there must be plenty of other countries in the world that deserve to be condemned? The stuff in Ukraine, Yemen, etc. maybe?

Resigning from a Human Rights Council looks bad publicity-wise, but realistically speaking, this probably needed to be done. Whole institution needs a kick in the ass.
