    Welcome to my Presidency, bitches!!!

Let's get 2018 started off right with a thread about conflict.

We're clearly pushing for a war with Iran, and this is the preliminary stages. SA and now Israel are laying the groundwork, and of course, pushing hard for this action. The war in Syria, the war in Yemen, and now the protests in Iran have moved us to the precipice where we are now.

Nikki Haley just gave a book report at the UN, where she laid out our initial salvo against Iran. We're going to call for an emergency session of the Security Council, and she called on all free people to stand with the Iranian people. She also announced us withholding aid from Pakistan and Palestine.

The President has weighed in as well:

Comments from the Supreme Leader of Iran:

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...-have-stirred-unrest-in-country-idUSKBN1ER0FT

I'd like people to add sources as we go pertaining to different aspects of this that interest them. Turkey is certainly another player that will need to be watched closely. I assume we let them steamroll the Kurds again in exchange for support against Iran.

Will update the OP with relevant sources and links.

Don't find yourself in the gulag, so don't derail these threads.

    Thanks!

Voted no because I can't imagine this happening right now. It will take something pretty significant for us to get involved in another ground war in the Middle East.

You'd hope a populist type president would at least stick to that idea in terms of war with their foreign policy. I voted no as well out of optimism but won't be surprised if a conflict occurs somewhere this year with the US.

I hope that our government will focus on the U.S. You know, like someone who happens to be the President keeps tweeting about.

Something significant how? Are you referring to 9/11?

Why is everyone so confident that we won't do it? The Jerusalem move was a huge thing. Mossad is absolutely shit stirring in Iran as I type this. Also, we were already targeting Iran for giving weapons to the the Houthi in Yemen. We're beating the drums at half speed already.

An attack, a flagrant act of war, Iran violating the nuclear deal, etc. could theoretically provoke a ground war. But it would have to be big. I can't imagine support for an invasion would be higher than 20%, rightly or wrongly. Starting a fight would be a sure-fire way to ensure that a candidate loses reelection.

Also, Trump is not a rational actor in any traditional sense. He would absolutely go to war to distract from his Presidency's impending collapse. It's a perfect symphony of destruction coming to pass.

We are already claiming that Iran is violating the deal. Trump refuse to certify their compliance, and we're accusing them of arming the Houthis in Yemen.

Trump is absolutely itching to renege on the Iran nuclear deal, something that most objective observers see as a major achievement of Obama foreign policy.

He's said as much multiple times.

He has an opportunity coming up later this month to slap sanctions back on Tehran. Anyone care to bet on that?

    https://www.politico.com/story/2017/12/28/trump-kill-iran-nuclear-deal-260860

Back in October he already refused to re-certify Iran's compliance, which had no immediate consequences. But if/when he doesn't renew the sanctions waiver by January 17th, sanctions will be automatically reimposed.

Iran would certainly see this as a US violation of the nuclear deal (and rightly so, in my opinion). What would their next move be?

I think for the WMD thing to work today, it's going to take undisputed proof of a nuclear weapon. If that happens, maybe war. Short of that, we aren't fighting over some weapons in Yemen.

No, we're fighting over dominance in the ME for Israel. Also, for SA to be the lone big dog in the Muslim world. There are tons of people who have wanted a war with Iran for decades. Trump is absolutely stupid enough to give it to them.

Also, LMAO @ "undisputed proof". Just like the Iraq War, eh?

Can't wait for that Gog and Magog War, so that we all die, and only the elites survive thanks to their high-end bunkers. Voted Yes, Humanity needs to leave this planet, destroying themselves.

Personally I am more convinced that the Israel situation is gonna blow up big time. Likud has voted on a resolution to allow settlements to expand without restrictions and have the same laws to apply in the occupied West Bank; that would amount to a de facto annexion. Thry, IMO, feel emboldended after the Jerusalem thing. Will this lead to direct war between the US and Iran? Highly doubt it, they have their own issues. But proxy battles will continue.

I will be shocked if things get anywhere near that point. There's a huge difference between a few people clamoring for war and getting your logistics organized, building a coalition in the UN, etc. If you see that, then be worried.

That's why I said it will take undisputed proof. I can't imagine 2003 repeating itself.

Trump is already placating the MIC with tax breaks and armament deals. He is also running a deficit that he can't really defend and won't pay for itself. It also goes against public demand and the GOP already needs to stop the bleeding before midterms.

So unless Iran does something incredibly drastic to get the American populace to show their teeth -- Trump isn't going to pull the trigger
