It seems that we can roll over a country pretty quickly with relative ease. It's this military-as-a-local-police-force situation that's not our cup of tea. I feel like pointing the military at a country and saying "win hearts & minds" is like firing a bullet into a crowd and telling it not to hit any good people. It's job is to blow a hole in things, not make friends.

The Army and Marines hunted and killed terrorists in the jungle - and this was the good old days, when you could massacre the odd village or two without everyone losing their shit on Twitter etc - while putting the civilian population into heavily guarded townships.

However, a major part of the British success was the political aspect: they were always going to withdraw and give Malaya independence anyway. They just wanted to do it on their own terms. So it was easier to gain support from the natives.

Interesting, but reading a little about it, it seems the terrorists were mainly chinese, and the support came from the malays.
That is not completely unheard of, the US also got support from the kurds in Iraq and Syria, as long as they're fighting the arabs.

The Pentagon has confirmed that a new Russian nuclear delivery drone is real. The undersea drone, which carries an enormous nuclear warhead to destroy coastal cities and military bases, was tested late last month. The test was leaked by unnamed sources to The Washington Free Beacon.

A 100 megaton bomb would generate artificial tsunamis, carrying the destruction far inshore.

I think when it comes to Germany and Japan. Those were two countries that were on the same "social" level as the US.
They already had a working justice, education, health system etc.
There was nothing for the US to build or implement. The people just went back to how they lived before the war.
