So, awesome news. The one and only Reilly Bodycomb is doing a traveling Sambo tournament. Modified Sambo rules that allows chokes, so that us BJJ players can compete and have an ace in the hole against more experienced Sambo players. It is hitting a few different cities, with Chicago being one of them. Think I might compete.

    Thats nice!
Im planing something similar for Osaka and West Japan for 2017:
Sambo and Combat Wrestling club tournaments, building following for regular regional events and one major cup in each, Sambo and Combat Wrestling.
I will be visiting US for seminars in 2017, so I might participate in one of Reilly's events

Even though I'm primarily a guard player, I plan on dedicating the majority of my time to throws and takedowns to hopefully do well in the tournament. As an American with heavy Ukrainian ancestry, I truly respect and love watching Sambo. Excited to compete in it!

How is the NYcombatsambo school located in manhattan? is that still in operation? I'm thinking of taking martial arts again with focus on grapping. There is also the sambo gym in Brooklyn sambocenter.com . Anyone has first hand experience with either one.

Sambo Steve from NY Combat Sambo used to post here, but I'm not sure if he does anymore.

I went to a few (four? five?) classes at NY Combat Sambo in 2014 and I thought the instruction was great. Steve seemed to really know his stuff and the largest class I went to probably only had about ten people (I went to the midday classes and the 6:00 p.m. class, so I think I got a decent idea of the average class size).

I honestly think the best part about it was how small the classes were. The other grappling schools I went to in NYC were great too, but there are times when the classes have 100 people (it's nice when you're practicing takedowns and there are only three groups on the mat because Steve can basically watch everyone)

I have not been to the Sambo Center because, even though I live in Brooklyn, it's pretty inconvenient for me to get there. This could be completely wrong, but I've heard it's mainly a judo school and the instructor is great judo coach. Again, that could be wrong, so don't take it as gospel.

To be clear, NY Combat Sambo probably would have been my first choice, but the schedule doesn't work very well for me.

Basically, I don't have much experience with either school and I didn't want to leave you without a reply.

Besides NY Combat Sambo, what are the other sambo schools in NYC metro, and besides Rdojo, or Kdojo in NJ, I forget what it is called?

Why wasn't that fight stopped after the Rea naked choke? Could someone explain?

    Out of boundaries.
Once the athletes leave the boundaries of the mat, the fight is restarted.

Not that I know about. There may be something in Brighton Beach or Sheepshead Bay because of the large amount of Russians in that area (I've heard there are a couple amazing wrestling coaches out there, but I've never been).

Basically, if you're in Manhattan, BJJ is king because there are so many big names and the academies are huge.

You should definitely try out NY Combat Sambo at least once. The first class is free, so there's really nothing to lose.
