Rewatch Were you surprised how many hard shots Nascimento ate from Lewis…

Weren’t most mma ranked heavies 10-15 years ago around 220-230 lbs? Most heavies nowadays are 250+, that’s probably why there’s a difference, all the smaller heavies with good skills dropped to 205
Absolutely this.
Fighters who would be LHW today used to compete at HW 15 years ago. Nothing more complicated than that.
People who are actually in the 250+ range are either huge (which is rare) or fat.

I didn't feel like Lewis hit him with full power/squarely until the end.
if anyone above 200 pounds hits a person with full power at the right spot that person is going down. the difference is, some guys don't need to do that to put people away.

Nas took Derrick's shots well. However, it was so frustrating how timid he was. He couldn't do shit to Lewis on the ground or in grappling, so use your damn striking then. However, on the feet he was hesitant with the rare punches he threw and chose to cover up and do nothing most of the time.

He fought like a bitxh. And lost like one too. good riddance. never seen someone less game than Nas in a long time.

You're a smartass masterclass lol.

the guy you're quoting he is 100% right.

lewis has power and that's it. they both fought sloppy, telegraphed and did not seem like high lvl fighters. THEY ARE RANKED. HW is really abysmal and it has noting to do with weight and the human body. want me to dig up vids of ranked HW's 10-15 from 20 years ago in mma or kickboxing? you really think that this headliner showed professional world ranked fighters?

Yeah, pull up the top 15 guys ranked from the UFC 20 years ago lol.

Derrick Lewis is not a top ten heavyweight in the world, and he is much better than he is given credit for. There have always been sloppy fighters in heavyweight.

Also, the best heavyweights were smaller back then - obviously smaller fighters look more coordinated and less sloppy.

It was a showcase fight for Lewis to get back on track after losing to Almeida, Nascimento had no real path to victory other than maybe lnp which Lewis was ready for

Both fighters looked absolutely awful. The fact that both guys are ranked in the top 15 is a real indictment on the HW division.

That being said, it didn't look like many shots landed cleanly.

Whatever.

Decent clinch work, decent ground work, both took shots, neither gassed.

Either one of them would fold you in half in 4 seconds and make you suck your own dick, if you had one.

So there's that.
