What kind of melee weapon is effective, yet considered less than lethal

I've never used one. Many of my academy instructors and some at my department liked them. Said they were very effective if you used then to break collar bones

We use Dymondwood straight sticks. They work well.

I knew a cop in the inland empire who was issued Sap gloves.

An 8 Ball in a woman's stocking always works. Axe handle or those mini baseball bats they used to give away on bat day come a close second.
