I'm a pretty chill guy, but I have to admit I hate people that get a belt promotion (lets say, blue to purple) and overnight they suddenly become full time coaches. Meaning every time you roll they feel the need to stop every 10 seconds and ask you why you are doing what you are doing, where are you going with that move, and, worst of all, if you lock them into something, they stop and "guide" you into finishing it correctly.

Its annoying to me. I can't imagine myself acting that way when I get my purple in a few years. Other that that, I've never really had any issues with anyone I've rolled with. Everyone is super cool.

What about you? What kind of person annoys you in your academy?

The people that just talk all the way through the drilling part of the class. So annoying to partner with them.

I'm not there to socialise, after work, I just want to go and get in the zone rather than exchange pleasantries.

Most people I'm fine with, the two things that annoy me are people who don't want to work hard during the technical/drilling portion of class (because don't waste my time), and people who don't roll hard and use that as a sort of passive-aggressive defense mechanism for why they lose (because sincerity >>>> irony).

Yeah, that's the worst kind of them all for me too and used to annoy the hell out of me at white/blue, luckily once I got to purple it practically stop happening, or at very least it only happens with people clearly so much better than me that I'm ok with being interrupted because I'm getting real insights.

Blue belts or even purples that are about to get tapped or in any kind of trouble and start to instruct to save their ego, are pathetic.

As long as they don't stink I'm ok.

I've only run into ONE person who just smelled so bad. I have no idea how long he doesnt wash his gi for, it honestly smelled so bad the entire academy would stink. And on top of that, under the gi who always whore this dirty stained wife beater, and had a very long, unkempt beard to go along with it.

The guy just had terrible hygene, and the professor, after every single class, would lecture us about respect and keeping your gi clean. He was clearly talking about him indirectly, but the guy never got the hint.

Luckily he was there only a month and dissapeared. Nice guy, terrible hygene

Big guys who maul little guys, but somehow don't recognize that their combination of big + maul is a significant factor in their success.

The worst example of that is an older (50+) blue belt who stopped training for like 12 years, and came back, and in one of our classes we only had blue belts (professor was out sick), so the highest ranked blue belt just assigned us our rolling partners. He made the mistake of assigning the older blue belt a female white belt, and he just SMASHED her. He went so hard on her, and after class the senior blue belt addmitted he made a mistake and he is worried she will never come back.

As far as I know, she hasn't been back since then. It was just sad.

I had a black belt do this to me when I had him mounted with one cross collar grip in.

It's the worst when they're nice. This one guy who's a higher belt than me is always down to roll, tells me helpful tips, lets me finish chokes on him... and he has just the WORST BO that I have to ignore.

I think the reason I've run into a few smelly people is that I'm new at my gym and I don't yet know who to avoid when we pair up.

I get sick of 10th degree white belts

EDIT: That 10th Degree White Belt is now a blue belt and was giving a new knee on belly/side control seminar to his training partner during class when we were supposed to be drilling Judo throws lol

We have this Fat Blue Belt. Gotta give him props for at least training but he can't do half the techniques and tries to teach the White Belts. This brand new Female White belt wasn't able to do a back roll. It was just in her mind. Anyway, the Fat Blue Belt tells her to roll. As she does, he grabs her feet to "help" her over. She didn't turn her head and cranked her neck. She's out for at least a month cause she sprained a muscle in her back.

The guy has no business teaching anyone anything. He's mediocre at best.

I had a black belt stop our roll after I spun out of his back control and landed on top in half guard. He looked at me like wtf, then nodded and said “good!” And ended the roll before I could try attacking. Was pretty funny. Not saying I would have tapped him, but I would have liked the opportunity to try.

  • The guy who brings his girl to watch, and rolls like its the finals in Metamoris
  • Filthy fuck who doesn't know what basic hygiene is despite being over 20 (Had a guy who went a week without a bath because his water in the apt was busted. Guy had a gym membership to the local chain gyms which are full with better showers)
  • The guy who tries out stuff he saw on YouTube that neither of us fully understand, and I end up injured not knowing how to roll with it. On my 2nd week the local gym hero tried guard jumping which I didn't know, and it nearly blew my knee out. Luckily it didn't

People who make excuses for why they tapped.

....that’s about it.

Easy solution: just drop your elbow on their neck until they stop talking. Then wait a little bit more anyways. Then finish the sub.

Be sure to look deep into their eyes at the same time too.

The "let me go competition effort and once I've tapped you I will comment on how tired I am and how desperately I need to rest so whatever time is left to roll I will spend it panting, putting my belt back on and just wasting my partner's time becauase I don't want to roll with him now that I am tired as hell because I rather go hard for 2 min and get the submission than a back and forth match using all the time we are allotted during training" guy.

And as time passes during the roll the guy gets more aggressive using pain techniques and brute force to get the submission. If he doesn't and ends up in bottom, he will usually stop the fight because he's so tired he can't (allegedly) keep up. Sweet baby Jesus, if I have to put up with someone's elbows grinding my every nook and cranny like I'm about to be molested, I'd appreciate if that person didn't give up once I get side control and start a bit of preshing.

people who always act like their time is more important than mine, which is pretty much everybody.

like bro, stop wasting my time talking about im wasting your time ;)
