What sport's position produces the best athletes?

UFC

There are plenty of short high school BBall stars. They wont make it past high school though.

I think BBall should have height classes, like boxing and wrestling have weight classes. Like there should be two leagues. One for guys over 6'3" and one for under. Or maybe they can break that up by position.
They do stuff like that for dunk contests and 3v3, but height classes have no place in the sport in its classic form. No thanks. That would just hurt the sport.

So basically which sport has the best or most depth of naturally gifted athletes.

Then it has to be soccer, since it is played by more people than any other sport.
No. Population sizes aren't the only contributing factor to raw athleticism passively being selected as the paragon attribute for success in sports. Skill is another chief deciding factor. So is the mobilized athletic talent & training acumen of the populations given to playing any given sport.

Are we discussing which positions have the most naturally gifted athletes or which position requires the broadest range of talent to play? Because they are 2 different things.

NFL cornerbacks might be the most naturally gifted athletes but their skill set only requires variations of running and jumping and response rate. Soccer players only require skills that are leg based - their catching and throwing abilities are completely under developed in their sport.

Hockey requires one of the broader ranges of skills but there's no catching. Baseball probably produces the best athletes because it forces athletes to be good both in the natural talent categories of running, jumping, hand-eye coordination, etc. plus they have to good with a tool.

Maybe martial arts produce the best athletes. Emphasis on "produce".

Wide receiver vs cornerback would really depend on the person. Generally, wide receivers have better hands, so they have better eye-hand coordination. Odell Beckham Jr would easily be a Golden Glove outfielder

This has been done to all hell and the conclusion is ALWAYS that "The best athletes" don't come from any specific sport or position. The best athletes adapt to the position they grow up playing.

Lebron James would have been a fantastic football player.

Usain Bolt could have been a great cricket player.

If Bo Jackson played soccer as a child you'd better believe he'd be one of the all time greats.

Calvin Johnson would have been an excellent basketball player.

Sports don't choose their athletes, athletes choose their sports

Well maybe we should just stop posting and making threads!!

You fuck!

That's bold to say the least.

But baseball players are mostly just standing around or sitting down. It is not a strenuous sport. That is why it is so popular in countries that are too humid during the season like DR, PR, and Venezuela, the US southeast.

NFL players would be shithouse at other sports.

Zero endurance = getting left in the dust in a real sport.

Yeah no. WRs and CBs probably run the equivalent of a marathon each game

Anyone can run a marathon when they get to stop and walk every 12 seconds.

Adrian Peterson could go play rugby and dump on whatever that clown who went to the 49ers is doing.

Adrian Peterson would be on the ground dry-heaving gasping for air and begging to be allowed to wear his adorable padding and helmet within three and a half minutes of kickoff if he tried to mix it in Rugby League.

Don't even get me started on Rugby Union.

No tbh...I am sure if he trained for a while he could be decent, like Hayne in NFL.

So they never stop running in rugby? No walking whatsoever? I find that hard to believe

btw football helmets actually make the sport more dangerous and brutal. Try getting speared by a 255lb A-level athlete wearing a football helmet and tell me how it feels

Far less walking in Rugby Union than in American Football. Even less again in Rugby League.

The helmets just look dumb, along with the padding. At least in NHL the dudes look like badasses. NFL is such a goofy-ass competition.

It takes a certain type of man to enjoy watching other grown ass men prancing around in TIGHTS.

Not that there's anything wrong with that ...
