what's wrong with socialism?

Socialism rewards laziness

It tends to retard creativity, drive, ambition, and using all the talents God has given you.

Decreased morality of a society

Also, when you run out of other peoples money, you are left with entitled people that can do nothing for themselves.

Too simplistic. You can't have unchecked capitalism.

Not gonna brag, but @Jack V Savage liked my post, so I think I’m right.

I noticed, and I disapproved.

@Rod1 actually made, however inadvertently, a very on-point Marxist argument in the thread about land confiscation in South Africa: that legal title to real property should not be forcibly transferred, but rather that de facto equitable title be instated though reallocation of proceeds from the productivity of said real property. That's a Marxian application - Marx did not believe that the state should seize all land/firms, but rather that economic production from the land/firms be managed by and allocated among those whose labor was depended on to extract it.

And this was a very popular sentiment in the US in the latter half of the 19th century: that wage labor (i.e. "wage slavery") was inequitable. Prominent American socialists like Eugene Debs weren't wanting the government to nationalize all workplaces: they were wanting workers to unite in managing the economy.

EDIT: Actually, it might have been @Ruprecht that made the argument now that I think of it.

I’ve spoken with people my age from Austria, Denmark etc and they tell me it’s not as rosy as it’s made it to be. Health care is free but the wait times are huge (same to what I was used to), education is free but you pay it with the high taxes anyways (hidden fees in everything) and quality is down (yep I’ve known that first hand)....so basically it’s a wash? Plus their populations are the size of Maryland so I can see how that type of system is sustained for them. The US? That’s another animal all together
Despite all that their living standards are, on average, quite higher that that of the US. You'll listen to the complaints of first world people living under so called socialism but would you take into account the complaints of an American like myself of our system? Or will you only dismiss the opinion of people born and raised in the first world when it runs counter to what you believe?

My point being that "socialism" and "capitalism" are already hopelessly muddled, and now we're having to deal with "social capitalism" (new one I saw here), social democracy, and now your "socio-capitalism." For fuck's sake, just discuss policies on their own merits. No one can keep up with this language pollution, and with everyone using their own private glossary, it's no wonder you see so many arguments about nothing.

I love that you have a "I'm smarter than everyone" complex.

There is nothing wrong with finding apt descriptors for relatively new systems.

Stop it.

?? So Israelis are going to heaven and you are going to hell? You're the sucker who pays for their colonization of the region? That's what they believe anyway. It must be since they are the self proclaimed keepers of heaven. After suckering you into attacking iraq. Don't be a fool.

Are you sure all companies pay their fair share of tax?
Taxation is theft

If it doesn't exist, then why did you try and use the circumstances of currently nominal socialist countries to make it sound like a bad thing? If I didn't know any better, i'd say you're trying to have your cake and eat it too. An actual socialist utopia would be great, and i'd gladly move there under the circumstances. The way you lay it out just seems lazy and self serving, especially since it's not based in any theory. It's like me asking if you want to live in a capitalist utopia and laying out Liberia. I mean, it is a bastion of unfettered capitalism after all. You'd throw a bitch fit.

I think you’re just focusing on my simple jab to you and TS. I think my level of education allows to me act like a scholar here and write much more.....well scholarly but I pride myself in speaking plainly and using my own experiences as my tools for my argument same as if we were debating in a bar or something so that’s why I specifically used “socialist utopia.” I digress though....I have first hand experience at a country trying to be a socialist paradise and what resulted was communism, poverty, and a few elites having all the fun sort of speak. That’s why I replied to your “red scare” comment and why I would love for you to stay in one of these countries as a typical “compañero”

I’m so mad I’m about to revenge fuck a Republican.

Quick, tell me how all poor people deserve it.

oh lawd, i would never subject a poor person to luckshot loving, thats just cruel.

Editing posts is for pussies, Jack.

Are you calling me a pussy?

Also, please don’t take that like away.

Did you edit this one, too? Maybe I'm losing my mind, but I thought you asked me to remove the like.

Danish person checking. No one here would even think to remove either universal healthcare nor tuition free education. I have never met a single person that would want that. Btw, only elective procedures have wait times.

It's plenty sustainable. Least corrupt country in the world, very strong middle class, least income inequality in the world, higher on forbes list on countries to do business with than the US, higher on the economic freedom list than the US, better education, more flexible workforce, better wages for the middle class, very low crime rates (no poor, less crime) so on so forth.

Btw, England, Germany, France, Scandinavia and so on. Every single country in the first world has some sort of single payer system and even access to education. It's not some radical idea. You guys pay twice as much as the OECD average for your care and you get the same standard, while still managing to have almost 30 million people uninsured. All because private insureres jacks up the prices on services and medicine. 1,5 trillion dollars in student debt, trillions of dollars in national debt, health insurance one of the leading causes of bankruptcy, people working full time on foodstamps, insane poverty rates, more people in jail per capita than any other country in the world, I could go on for ages. Well done!

Your simple jab made you look like an idiot, don't quit your day job playboy.

No, Im not too proud to realize I’m wrong on a subject and learn from it. Our system is flawed sure but there’s so much that would go into instituting a system like the one in Europe that wouldn’t blend with our country. Essentially we would end up arguing Cuba vs Brazil again

Jack, that’s the second time you’ve called me a pussy in this thread.

Would you PLEASE keep it down (the RePublicans are listening).

oh lawd, i would never subject a poor person to luckshot loving, thats just cruel.
No one deserves my loving but me and Jesus.

I guess I met the one disgruntled Dane (?) in your country haha

What requirements must be met to qualify for welfare? How much do people on welfare get paid? Is it national or does it vary by Province? Is there a time limit?

Where do I go to find out more?
Each province administers their own program. Not sure about specifics, but try teh google!

I don't think it would be that hard. Alaska has a Social Welfare Fund that distributes money to every Alaskan citizen at the end of the year, that's quite a radical policy if you think about it. To be fair Alaska has a small population but its one of the most conservative states in the country and yet they were able to institute such a program decades ago to great success.
