Where to train in Phuket?

How much money you should bring is hard question to answer. . Are you eating Thai food 3 meals a day? Renting a scooter? Living at the gym in your own place or sharing with 2 or 3 other guys? Or finding accomodation nearby?

Want a big tip to save some money? Bring a big hydroflask insulated water container. I carried a 1 liter Hydroflask everywhereI went. Training, dinner, to the beach. You buy a couple bigger water containers at the 7 Eleven and then keep refilling them from the street side water filters for 1 baht a liter. I wasnt paying an extra 30-60 baht every meal I wanted some water. Not to mention the gallons of water you're going to consume during training. It doesnt sound like much, but if youre there an extended amount of time, the cost of water adds up quick.

Thailand already has a giant plastic waste problem. No reason to help contribute to it.

Yeah i have a fast motablism so i feel hungry a lot so maybe 3-4 meals a day how much is food over their for each meal

Edit: forgot to mention i'm staying in the gym for the duration i'm their.

Pot left quite a while ago. He got a good head trainer job at some Muay Thai academy in Phuket Town. But I just recently heard he started up his own gym. Theres always opprotunity to clinch at Sinbi, especially in the evening class. Youll start out clinching with other foreigners but Sing (owner of Sinbi) has recently been bringing in a lot of Thai boys to fight for the gym. If they see you're good and trust you, you should be able to clinch with them.

Lion is run down and noone trains there, at least as of 2 seasons ago. Same with Rawai Supa. Management changes seem to kill some of these gyms.

Sinbi has added a new weight room. Its not really anything compared to Tiger or AKAs, but I doubt there is anything you couldnt do with whats provided.

One of the main reasons I keep going back to Sinbi is the location. The Rawai/Nai Harn area is an awesome part of Phuket. Not too touristy like Patong or Karon. I would stay in that area and check out the half dozen gyms that are close by, Sinbi, AKA, Lion, Kaewphitaek, Rawai Supa, probably a few more have sprouted up since I was last there.

These are just my opinions based off nearly a year (cumulative) of living and training in Phuket. With pretty much all of it at Sinbi. In Phuket Ive done sessions at AKA and UTFF when it was in business. I have friends who train at Kaewphitaek, Phuket Top Team, AKA, and Tiger. They all have pluses and minuses. Im hoping to be back there in Feb. but not sure yet.

Im shocked utff went out of business. They look to be doing good with alot of people floating in and the gym looked sick! Damn thai politics

Been training in Phuket many time, Go for traincation very good. If you serious and want to train hard? than first time not go here ok my friend. But if you like beach, beer, and biz. than area perfect for you. Nice area, very pricey. But must do if you go to Thailand ok.

- Sinbi- Good location, nice area, easy easy, prob best if I pick. Nice beach close by.

- Supa MT (formerly Rawai MT)- near sinbi, new trainers,

- Rawai koh lak- new gym, ok beach, but nothing to do. good for train.

- Namsaknoi gym- pricey location, but good training, party hard if you like. I heard Namsaknoi left though so avoid ok

- Tiger- Big big gym, you like? OK, depend on trainer

-Dragon- Better than tiger for sure, less expensive

- Lion- trash

-Phuket top team- for mma good, MT ok ok

Wish I would of trained there more. Always good to try something a little different from time to time. Everyone I knew that trained there was shocked they closed up so abruptly. I enjoyed that James and Roberto were pretty tough trainers. If you didn't show you were trying, give up, or complain, they had no problem telling you to get the hell out.

He is at AKA in thailand now. Atleast he can say he made the dutch style more popular there. Now both tiger and ptt try to do it. When you train with them, it hate them with a passion, but better afterwards lol

Wait is aka in thailand really good for stand up and grappling? I kind of want to go their to work on mostly my stand up but to work on my grappling too.

You live in NJ and you would like to go to Thailand for grappling? I think you have so many world class grapplers and submission specialists that any of these Thailand camps would love to have. USA has the best grappling scene after Brazil if not at the same level.

Lmao the gyms are good, but i don't train in new jersey, i train in nyc. The only reason i'm going to thailand is for just 3 months to just focus on training, i'll be staying in the accomodations in the gym, i won't have to sign a year contract, i won't have to pay a $17 train ride, i'll be working on my kicks and knees and elbows as well as my punches and work on conditioning, i'm mainly going their to work on my stand up. The only reason i don't train in new jersey is because every gym in new jersey wants me to sign a contract. And i don't want to do that, so i train nyc where i don't have to sign a contract. I mean it would be nice to learn some grappling in thailand just to work on some grappling.

I suggest that if you're going to Thailand to train Muay Thai, stick to Muay Thai. Injuries and sickness are very common in Thailand. No reason to add another element that could take you out of training. Imagine grappling with someone your first week there and tearing a ligament. There goes a month of training.

I have grappling experience though, i know how to grapple i just haven't trained grappling in nearly 2 years but i'm just going to train muay thai, since thats really my only cheap option in phuket thailand.

whats up I will be going to Thailand in January for a couple of months. Going to start off at Sinbi and see how I get on as the gym has had some great reviews.
Hit me up if you will be training as well

I'm going over to that gym too, want to meet up over their?

And i'm going in january also

Just a quick question, if i want to get 2 fights in thailand (at least) just to get the experience would they do that?

Have you fought before in your home town?

1 street boxing match in the hood, and one muay thai smoker that i didn't do too good in and it was for publicity.

Edit: i might be having a fight this year but with my work schedule and my training schedule it doesn't work to well because i normally work until 1-2am and sometimes i get home at 3am, so still undetermined how i'm going to get a fight this year or the beginning of next year but if i go to thailand then i can get a fight.

Well it honestly depends. I don't know about Sinbi but most gyms at least want you to train there for a couple weeks before they'll even think of getting you a fight, just so they can assess where you're at.

Obviously, if you're good and you get there and they can see that you know your shit, you've fought before etc, then they'll get you a fight. If you get there and have a much different style or your lack of experience is showing, then they'll probably be less willing to get you a fight until a few weeks later when you've had more training under their guidance.

I have been training for nearly 5 years (5 years will pass in feb), i'm trying to work on my conditioning more, i feel more motivated to go to my muay thai gym rather then go to my workout gym but if i'm over their i'll feel more motivated.
