Jermell Charlo offered to step up, but according to Big D, Jamie Munguia is the leading candidate.

With Liam Smith withdrawing from a fight with junior middleweight titlist Sadam Ali (26-1, 14 KOs), 29, of Brooklyn, New York, on Friday, Golden Boy Promotions is looking for a replacement opponent to challenge Ali on May 12 (HBO) at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York. One of the leading candidates is Mexico’s Jaime Munguia (28-0, 24 KOs), 21, of Mexico, a source with knowledge of the discussions told ESPN.

Be nice if Ali took the fight. Seeing Jermell sooner than later for another KO would be good news.

Yeah. Yeah. Just like Jacobs "seriously considered" fighting short notice on May 5...Charlos are both ranting so much for the press to generate a mainstream name. Too bad, they just can't seem to breakthrough and they've been pros for a while. They won't be remembered in ten years, sadly.

Ali is all wrong for huge 154's (Hurd, Charlo) but he stacks up well againsy Beefy, Brook, and others of that size.

Charlo kills him! I bet golden boy will choose an unranked cherry to at least hold the title for one more fight

You don't think Jacobs would have fought Golovkin on May 5th? I know Golovkin's people would never accept it, but most indications were that he was down for it. Making strong pronouncements on the Charlo's future when they're only now really getting to world level seems odd, as well.

Jacobs said so himself in an interview, didn't he? Here's the link:

Also, I just see the lack of significance as an evetuality with Charlis. People can have predictions. I'm not saying they are terrible fighters. Listen, I get it, you're a huge fan of one or both of them, and that's delightful, but I don't see much in terms of memorability or historical relevance in the long haul.
