Why are we talking about social welfare when corporate welfare is by far our biggest cost?

This makes no sense. First of all, you can't have free market capitalism without a lot of gov't involvement in the economy, if nothing more than just to create and maintain a market-based economy. Second, almost all economists would agree on the benefits of several regs and gov't spending programs (for example: http://www.igmchicago.org/surveys/infrastructure-spending).

I swear to you it's like they just make stuff up, lol.

Because it's easier to criticize poor people in need than abstract wealthy companies.

99% of the people don't even understand corporate welfare.

I'm quoting myself because this thread predictably devolved into a discussion about poor people with almost no analysis of the effects of corporate welfare, pro or con.

We don't talk about corporate welfare because most people don't understand it, don't research it, so they don't even know what to talk about. Poor people are just easier subjects.

gnone of them produces jobs, the other doesn't...

one actually funds campaigns, the other is used for pandering during campaigns...

one is subjected (theoretically) the highest corporate tax rate in the world, the other group doesn't pay any net taxes at all

People have to wait in line behind people fraudently using Food Stamps/WIC/TANF delaying the duties of those that have things to do, corporate welfare doesn't actually effect anyone's day whatsoever

Tl/Dr: one earns keep, the other doesn't.....

How do corporations not pay their taxes? Why are those mothers single in the first place? Maybe they should have thought about having intercourse until they finished their studies. Only in America do we reward irresponsibility to this level

I'll leave it to you, figuring out how corporations avoid paying their taxes....

You should see the steak. I was going to get a Wagyu NY strip for $50/lb but last time I had a hard time cooking it. The fat dripping created too much flame flare up. Still a 2.5lb prime t bone is pretty nice. I’ve been eating these at least twice a week. Colon cancer here I come

“ Last year corporate income taxes contributed$444 billion to the U.S. Treasury. That’s a fifth of the $2.2 trillion in total federal tax receipts — and more than double the federal take from businesses in the trough of the recession in 2009.”

Whatever they do it’s not enough. Keep parroting your idiotic leftist talking points

Bad life choices results in a bad life.

The gentleman below answered perfectly.

But, feel free to carry on being a bitter failure.

I'll take your refusal to answer whether or not you're a christian as shame in yourself. Progress of a kind.

Corporate taxes related to GDP have dropped steadily for decades. They have been contributing less and less to the total economy, while we see bailout and tax cut after bailout and tax cut.

What do corporate taxes have to do with corporate welfare?

Corporations benefit society, welfare leeches don’t.
What do corporate taxes have to do with corporate welfare?

What does corporate welfare have to do with assistance to people who need it?

I’m sorry to hear that. She was clearly not “able bodied”, I’m fine with her receiving benefits.

Unfortunately, those that took advantage of the system screw over people in her situation.

Best wishes.

Thanks.
She's all good, was 25 years ago. Still kicking.

It's a real world example of the benefits a social safety net provides both for the individual and the country.

No doubt there is real issue with long term welfare recipients choosing not to work but these are best addressed by controls on welfare not wholesale cuts.

gnone of them produces jobs, the other doesn't...
Jobs that taxpayers subsidize to keep their employees out of poverty.

one actually funds campaigns, the other is used for pandering during campaigns...
Funds them to keep politicians in their pocket. And yeah, nobody ever uses the "job creators" fairy tale to pander for votes

I wonder which voters are most likely to fall for pandering:

The working poor have to rent from, and work for, those corporations that own everything, and they do pay taxes on net, so it's all good.

According to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, the lowest-income quintile — those making less than $19,000 a year — pay almost 11 percent of their income in state and local taxes. Working people, even if they don’t make enough money to pay federal income tax, also pay payroll taxes that contribute to Social Security and Medicare. And anyone who drives a car pays gas taxes. The old cliché really does hold true — the only thing as inevitable as death are taxes.

The rest are elderly who've paid into the system their whole lives, or children who's parents are the aforementioned working poor. Or disabled people.

People have to wait in line behind people fraudently using Food Stamps/WIC/TANF delaying the duties of those that have things to do, corporate welfare doesn't actually effect anyone's day whatsoever
... other than putting those people in line with an ebt in the first place. If median income had kept pace with the economy since 1970 it would be nearly double what it is today. That's happened because working class people lack the leverage to do anything about it. Thanks to people like yourself who buy into the idea that they are the enemy.

Right, except the economy would shut down without low wage workers. Somebody has to do those jobs, and we rely on them.

And considering the rest are mostly kids who will eventually be consumers, and elderly who've already done their part, I guess that leaves one group we can just kill off. Looking at you, disabled people. Step up your game!

Because EBT and shit are more visible in the average person's life. They see people at the store with them everyday. Not having a clue what a drop in the bucket that is compared to scams by huge companies/government.

Socialism for the rich, capitalism for the poor.
