Well, I don't think it's realistic (even if we were to suppose that Trump supporters/Republicans are of equal principle as their counterparts) to expect them to hold their own party figure accountable to the same degree as the opposing party. It's certainly remarkable, and in modern times unprecedented, how openly corrupt and incompetent this administration is and how completely disregardful the right is of its malfeasance.
However, I think the more precise question should be whether the right has been as scrutinizing of Trump as the
left was of Obama, and whether the
left has been as accommodating/severe in their criticism of Trump. But in both cases, it's clear that the left held Obama to much, much higher standards, politically, procedurally, and policy-wise and has likewise not reflexively opposed all of Trump's policies arbitrarily like the right did with Trump and have given him praise in his rare moments of being right.
It's a hard comparison to draw, though, since Obama was skilled, competent, and furthered policies that were good faith attempts at good government, while Trump is boorish, incompetent, and has furthered objectively porous policies (which is owed far more to the complete soullessness and lack of integrity of the
Republican Party, rather than Trump himself, who I do think would cosign whatever his advisers told him was good policy).
Yeah, he's been likewise panned by historians, policy experts, and people who come to this discussion with clean hands on appraising presidential performance.
