Why is PC gaming the "master race" when their best games are console ports?

Serious question, as I don't own a console, what is the last game you've bought that you were able play/install strictly from the disc? It seems these days games are so big or require you to connect to the internet and made physical discs essentially just key that verifies you "own" the game.

I feel like physical media was the last form of real ownership you had but even then companies got around it.

That's pretty sweet. Do you get to keep the games when you unsubscribe? I unsubscribed to Gamepass for the same reason. I have a shit ton of games that I haven't even played yet so it wasn't worth it; but once you unsubscribe from game pass you can't play the games you downloaded from them anymore.

You can play most any game without an update off the disc. Generally online access is the only thing that’s restricted without an update.

None of the games play from disc anymore. The game downloads, then the updates and it can take a while too. Regardless the game is stored on your HD and the disc is just basically used to prove you own the game every time you play it.

Pre-installation before release, download with installation is now quicker than a CD installation, ownership is assigned to a digital signature not a physical copy, removes most publisher fees, developers can push out game updates faster and the PR campaign costs less. Thats just to name a few.

Consoles are still using an optical drive, a HDD by default in 2018 and a TV/monitor at 60hz.

So you listed convenience which is the exact same thing I already said?

Again, that ownership can be revoked and there’s nothing you can do about it. You don’t own anything but a license. I can sell, trade, give away,do whatever with my physical copy.

If you unsubscribe, you keep the games.

They should be able to via Plex (which transcodes to .WAV on-the-fly) even if the media file is native.

This is a trivial capability, nonetheless.

Blu Ray disc capacity is only 25GB. It has to be the case for some games if not most contemporary AAA games.

That's definitely not true. Single layer is 25gb, dual layer is 50gb. I dunno which ones they use for console games though.

    It's easy to check though.

I popped DOOM in as it's the largest install I remember having and it played fine while waiting for the 40GB install. Just couldn't access any online features.

I don't care what platform people like to play (though I make the occasional PC master race joke) but this is why I play PC and stopped with consoles after the PS3, along with the fact that the newer consoles didn't look like much of a step up from the older ones. There's console games I'd like to play but overall the PC is just a better platform for me and I can play with more friends. I also figured why keep buying consoles and computers when I can just have one machine that fulfills both roles. The versatility and power of a PC is hard to pass up.

Its a lot cheaper to just buy console and games and forget about upgrading parts, being worried about worn fans and crap. Although I still got my 6 year old PC with quad I7, 16gb ram and all I have replaced thus far was GPU from 2gb to 8GB GTX 1080 and PSU that blow up last year. Fans and liquid cooling doing good although probably will have to replace fans someday as mobo is getting hot.

The console games, the exclusives is something what I miss as a PC gamer. And I dont like playing on pad. I was PC player since I remember and it stayed this way. Whenever I went into friends and tried to play on a pad it was a no no.

lol, not sure if you're trolling. PC gaming is the shit, you're missing out if you only stick to consoles.

There are near 15 thousand games on Steam, thousands more on GOG, and thousands more on various locations on the web, many which are free. The sales on Steam and GOG alone make pc gaming amazing. However, when you account for better frame rates, resolution options, upgrades, mods, more peripherals, lifespan for games, far better VR etc... console gaming in comparison is beyond basic.

Here's my setup. I use my pc from the couch, in front of my 55 inch tv, flanked by two 42 inch screens (more for work). I used to use those side screens for racing/flight sims, but now I just stick to VR for the best immersion. With my wheel and flight stick, I can use them in countless games, from several generations if I want to go back to X Wing/Wing Commander. You can play a small minority of those on your console, but with one screen (PSVR is pretty tight though, love what they are doing).

A lot of people have far more elaborate setups/cockpits, but my ass prefers my couch, especially for work, and this is easy to fold up and stash away.

Sure, consoles can get exclusives that never make it to PC, but I don't know anyone that loves games, and is PC first like me, who doesn't own a console or two, if only to nullify that. Personally, I own a PS4, might get a switch to play Xenoblade and Zelda too.

See boys, just like I said. Try jacking it to VR porn while playing Solitaire with a flight stick on a console. Pro tip: you can't.

    lmao

There's this great app in VR called Bigscreen, where you can sit in a giant virtual theater and watch anything on your pc on the movie screen. It really feels like you're in a theater. You can choose a bunch of environments. I use it often to watch movies/shows that are better served in a theater experience. You can also invite people into your session and they can have their own screen in front of them.

I accidentally joined someone's room. There were four in there, playing online cards (I think poker) on their screens, while streaming porn on the big screen lol. Gayest/funniest thing I had seen online in some time.

Well, it seems like consoles prices are creeping up to PC territory... at least lower end PC's.

Isn't the new XboxOne X $500? Plus, it's a sneaky way to get console users to pay for another console by providing a performance upgrade model without actually calling it a next gen console.

For the life of me, why not just offer a gamepad (like the Logitech G13) and mouse option for console users.

Or would the butthurt be too epic?
