The World Boxing Super Series, the ambitious single-elimination tournament, is in serious jeopardy of discontinuing before the second season is complete, multiple industry sources told The Ring.

There’s been growing turmoil behind the scenes between the shareholders banking the tourney. At the heart of the issue: some investors have funded more than their promised share; others haven’t met their due.

The semifinals are slated for February and March, and the matchups are set, but as of now, there’s been no sites secured for any of the six bouts; no dates, either. There’s growing concern among organizers and promoters involved that the second round of the tournament won’t occur at all.

Several fighters are still waiting for their purses to be paid out from their quarterfinal bouts, according to sources. The first round of Season 2 completed in October. Boxers are typically handed a paycheck the day of the fight.

The World Boxing Super Series contract requires participants to submit invoices, an unusual practice. The contract stipulates that fighters receive payment within five business days of invoice submission; in some cases, that promise has been met.

Other boxers — and their promoters/managers — have yet to be paid at all weeks later. In all, there’s 24 boxers who entered Season 2, which features cruiserweights, bantamweights and junior welterweights. Twelve fighters now remain.

like the same tournament as dorticos/gassiev? is it the same set of guys that put together the SMW tournament years back?

Sauerland buying all that blow for his luxurious Abu Dabi porn festivals homeboy exhausted all the resources

Oh dear, this would be very sad but unfortunately enevitable when you’re not selling out arenas and have no TV deals.

Where is Kalle gonna get his money for Columbian powder now?

Ah shit I hope this doesn't happen. I've got money on Inoue winning the tournament. Would be a real shame if they can't get their funding sorted it's been pretty good so far. Their first season was excellent and made Usyk a star.

Too bad for Inoue, I guess. Even if the tournament format is a risky one in boxing, I enjoy the settings they created, and the CW bracket was pure gold. Fuck.

this is a disturbing development. Hopefuly something can be figured out.

oh for fuck's sake, i was looking forward to these fights.

The 1st season was great, would be bummed

I love all the high level talent they have got for these tournaments but organizing them to make it all user friendly was a huge failure.

this really sucks if true. This was the chance for guys like Inoue, Tete, Rodriguez, Rougarou, Baranchyk, Taylor and Tabiti to have their breakthroughs and it's been shot down the toilet.

That blows, this format was awesome.

Is there a lot of money to be won betting on who has to be the clear favorite?
No but the earlier you get in your bet the better odds you get. I got 4/6 odds on Inoue because I bet early now they are 4/11 which are pretty poor odds. So I effectively doubled my potential profit.
