Was Austin a white hot controversial babyface in 97 or 98?

Both. It wasn’t until about summer of 97 that Vince realized he probably had the next big thing on his hands, IMO. 97 Austin was SUPER-OVER, and felt much more organic than it would in 98, because the company hadn’t really endorsed him yet as “the guy”.

My viewing of wrestling starts with Survivor Series 87. That is the earliest tape that my brother had when I started watching in 94. I would watch all the PPVs over and over again, but my fandom mostly starts in 88 (he had a bunch of shows taped from that year). I would like to go back and watch all of 87 in order though, but having said that, 97 is my favorite year in all of the wrestling that I've watched. Being Canadian and having my favorite wrestler become the way that he was was awesome. Also I was 9 in 97 so the increase in edginess was so cool to me. I'll never forget the post cage match meltdown from Bret

Been going through 1997 WWF over the past few weeks. Incredible stuff. To see the pieces of the puzzle being put into place has been fascinating. The way they built stars, main event feuds and the "attitude" (heh) of the show is so good to watch again.

There was a teeny tiny bit of me that was worried that it might not be as good as I remembered it, rose coloured glasses as it were, but nope - brilliant.

1997 was a great year for wrestling, but 1987 might have been even better. Hulkamania running wild, Randy Savage, Andre, Jake Roberts, Rick Rude and others. The WWF was on fire back then.

Million dollar man Ted Dibiase was a great gimmick back then. It worked better, and can't be duplicated the same way. He had Virgil as well. "Everyone has a price for the million dollar man Ted Dibiase"

In any league or any promotion, 80s > 90s
