You should have to work at walmart, without a college degree.

sounds like you want to be another drunken loser wife beater and get paid well... fuck off with your blue collar dreams

One national union is a horrible idea. The largest reason many unions got corrupt is because they got to big. You had a lot of people who worked and made a lot of money simply being union bosses and not employees of the company or trade the union represented. I agree we need stronger unions, but they have to be smaller local ones.

So then we need unions with less bargaining power?

Lol

You know...there are many high school diploma jobs out there that matches or even beat a regular Bachelor degree job. Government jobs come into mind right away. Cops, clerks, aides, etc. Even private sector offer many options, not just factory work.

When I hear people say that if you work hard, and make good decisions, you will be successful, what I hear, is them saying you should work at Wal-Mart if you don't go to college.

See, I don't want to take things from others more successful, what I want is for the average person, with an average high school diploma, is given the opportunity to have a middle class life style.

Factory jobs in this country used to suck. They paid shit wages, and people died all the time at work. Then we had a labor revolution, where we took shit paying unsafe jobs, and forced employers through law to offer middle class wages, and safe work conditions.

When I was 16, in 1996 I was a high school drop out. I was able to find a job as a machinist grunt. The worked sucked, long hours, shit pay, but if I would have stuck with it, in 6 years I would have been making a middle class wage. Those opportunities were few and far between in 1996 compared to 1966, and they are almost non-existent today.

Most of us seem to agree that the American middle class is disappearing, and I don't think any tax plan, or regulation is going to fix that.

We need another labor revolution in this country. We don't need to empower the old corrupt unions, we need to organize, and create a new union structure, in the spirit of Jefferson's quote, of let there never be 20 years without a revolution such as this. Let us start fresh, where systems are uncorrupted and can actually work.

We need a national union. 1 union for all workers, to match the power of the bohemeths of the corporate, and government bodies.

If we have a need for a national guard, national Social Security, national Medicare, then we have a need for a national Union, with the collective bargaining power of every US worker that chooses to join.

Discuss......

So you had an opportunity not many people get, to have a decent wage. You just had to last 6 years. And you couldn't hack it.

And you think we need to adjust labor laws because of it? Why do you think you'd be able to meet the requirements of those new labor laws? You have a history of quitting.

All I can say is you only live once. Learn a trade, join a union, then retire in 20 years.

Or work for the government and do the same. That pension is absolutely crucial. Time goes by so fucking fast. Next thing you know, you're 50 years old with no retirement plan. 401k isn't gonna cut it.

I bet my late teenage and early 20's would make you jelly.

Hotel orgies, and concerts. Fucking squares don't know what you missed out on. You will regret it on your death bed.

Lol. And now you think the world owes you a living. Funny how that works.

In Canada at least if your a hard worker you will likely succeed if you make other decent choices in life such as living within your means. Pure socialism like communism is a straight path to poverty for most and i believe capitalism is the best tool to raise everyone. However, even capitalism has its limits and with automation corporations are trying to push wages even lower. There has to be some balance brought to this equation as i dont want to see first world nations become third world due to automation creating massive unemployment which will bring on its own a large increase in crime/poverty. I wonder how the world will look like in 50 years with automation taking away half of the unskilled jobs.

I am part of one of the strongest locals in the country. Our local wouldn't dare leave the protection and lobbying influence of the international.

That thinking has worked for your union...how has it work for the rest?

I dont think you can be cop without college degree. Almost every cop I know, or had aspirations of being a cop went to college with criminal justice and like majors.

Cop is high school diploma. But if you want to rank up, you need a degree yes. I know/see many cops going back to school so they can rank up. There are also many lazy cops who are content and thus you see so many old entry-level officers.

It depends on the state requirements. In Minnesota, for example, you have to be POST certified which either requires a degree from a select few programs in the state, most of them four year, or experience brought in from out of state.
