Your favorite WWF wrestler(s) from mid 80s to mid 90s

So many great ones back in the day but nobody ever came close to this guy in his prime:

In what sense do you feel HBK is overrated?

Bret and Shawn could be argued as the two best of all time for in ring performance for sure. Austin was great but limited obviosuly due to his neck.

The Rock with a microphone is god like I agree as is Flair. Born to entertain thousands.

But we have to factor is everything, Michaels is arguably the most well rounded guy ever who can adept so well to any style he makes shitty wrestler like Hogan look good because of how good he is.

Several reasons. Here are a few:

1. In the ring, he didn't sell injuries, and never really used ring psychology effectively. He was great, but really just a high spot specialist(ironically, something that is often crticized of today's wrestlers). A guy like Bret was the total package, and made the product look believeable.
2. He was decent on the mic. But he never held entire crowd's captive the way Rock, Austin, etc did on a regular basis.
3. His refusal to do business, and of burrying other wrestlers, even when it was not best business. I don't know how someone can be considered the greatest, when they do things that hurt the product, eg faking an injury so he won't have to drop the belt at the biggest show of the year, forcing the promoter go throw together a different main event, at the last moment.
4. He was never the top draw in the company. Not once. Not even close. Bret and Taker were bigger draws in the mid-90's. Austin was a bigger draw in the late 90's. Rock was a bigger draw in the eaely 2000's, etc.

I was a big fan of Warrior and Savage, and I liked the monster heels, One Man Gang, Kamala, Earthquake, Undertaker when he was a zombie, BamBam, Vader, Yokozuna. Maybe it was just mostly fat guys with crazy looks that stood out, I don't know. Also, Bret Hart, Mr Perfect and Ric Flair carried the early 90s wwf.

Anyway, Savage>Michaels. Michaels had an excellent second act to his career. His run through the legends league (Flair, Angle, Taker, McMahon) in the 00's at wrestle mania was epic, but before his extended hiatus, he bombed as champ after a lengthy buildup. He wasn't a credible winner and he didn't win cowardly. You can't blame the organization either, they made him this male prostitute character then had him fight back against a series of big mean pimps, all culminating in him taking his own place among the legends, it was great story building.

Savage, on the other hand, was ready to carry the weight from day one. Picked up the company during Hogan's various departures without any loss to prestige. He was still capable in ring into the late 90s, best defined character ever, all through his interviews. It was all so natural, I'd say effortless if not for all the strain evident in his voice. Also, he had much better crossover appeal. Macho is the ideal form 20th century pro wrestler.

Randy Savage and didn't even hesitate or second guess my choice. Even as a kid who thought it was real at the time I knew he had "it"

All the more reason Savage should have had a classic program against Bret in the early 90's. In hindsight, the company fumbled a golden opportunity with a Bret-Randy title match at WrestleMania instead of toying around with Yokozuna for a year and a half. It really would have propelled Bret from the start and Savage being a really cool guy, he would have put him over at the time. This is a botch that is difficult for me to get over because it was right there. IMO Savage is one of the most underrated wrestlers ever.

THIS X10000

I never really understood how they dropped the ball here. Especially since Savage wanted to do that 2 year program with Michaels....

The Macho Man (The Champion) Vs The Hit Man (The Challenger) at Wrestlemania X!!!

My dream match right there!

Easily the Hulkster with The Ultimate Warrior coming in as a close 2nd.

I'm more of an 80s wrestling guy.. (born in the 70s)

In my mind one of the most underrated guys as far as popularity (I'd say at the time mid 80s he was second only to Hulk) and also one of my favorites was...
Hillbilly Jim... you just never hear anyone talk about him much from that time

my #2 favorite was Ivan Putski... from his kinda chubby "blue collar gimic" days to his bodybuilder looking days... I thought his son would carry on the legacy but never had much of an impact

Brutus the Barber
Red Rooster (I was a kid)
Jake
Undertaker (it was different in the beginning)
Demolition
Dibiase
Orndorf
Earthquake

My favorite wrestlers from the mid 80s to early 90s: Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Randy Savage

Early 90s to mid/late 90s: Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, and Sting
