Racial profiling obviously exists in varying degrees in both the police force and criminal justice system.

The question is flawed. There are something like 90,000 police officers in the US. Attempting to pass judgement on that broad of a demographic based on occupation alone is retarded.

Are there racist people in the US? Yes. There seems to be quite a few. Are some of them police officers? Undoubtedly, yes. Does that mean that the police are racist? No. It just means that some are and some aren't. They're a reflection of society.

Obviously many racist cops, but I think they also discriminate against young people and poor people as well.
Probably depends what area one is in and also how one is dressed. Time of day may be a big influence.

I'm caught between "Yes, there's systemic racism. But yes, black men commit a disproportionate amount of reported crimes..."

I think many large city police departments are in a Catch 22 situation. If you are too proactive then you are "over-policing" and "racial profiling", but if violent crime starts to increase in black neighborhoods then you "don't care" about the black community.

Let's say a black cop sees a white guy driving through a minority high crime area with lots of street drug sales. Is it racist to believe they are there to buy drugs.

I don't find it puzzling at all that the segment of society which commits the most crime also gets the most attention from the police. I wouldn't call that systemic racism, I call that economically and efficiently allocating resources. I don't understand at all why we should feel uncomfortable with this, this is how everything works. If my arms are huge and my legs tiny, I'm going to squat 3x a week while not even doing any arm work at all. If one part of my backyard is fucked, I'm going to dedicate considerable time to fixing just that part. If you make less than 100 Gs a year, the chances of you getting audited are pretty slim. If you're a high income earner, the chances increase with the size of your income. Etc.
