Obama also put the kibosh on some big pieces of an arms deal at the end of his Presidency over concerns with Saudi Arabia's actions in Yemen. Although, we have largely supported their war there.

Trump has decided to offer them the biggest arms deal in history, and is not restricting it at all from what I can gather. Again, Obama is no saint here. But, to paint him as particularly beholden to the Saudis is misinformed at best.
 
To be fair. And as much as liked making fun of Trump the last couple weeks,
This is somehow out of his control.
The only thing you could say is that he overstepped the anti-Muslim Saudi rhetoric on his campaign.
But no reasonable person could have actually expected the relation with the Saudi to be different under Trump.

Of course usually taking tough on the Saudi-like Trump did. Then not delivering at all would hurt normal candidates with their base next election.
But Trumpsters are already spinning it instead of maybe voicing some criticism towards his campaign rhetoric.
 
US will sell arms to anyone who can afford them, regardless of who sits in the Oval office. It's the national business. Germany sells cars. Switzerland sells chocolate and watches. US sells things that go boom.

No one likes the Saudis, but Iran has increased in power during the Obama administration, and needs a counter at this point. US needs to sell things that go boom.

The good news is, money is coming back into the country, rather than being flown out to Iran. The arms deal will also create jobs, which is the #1 goal of his presidency (unless you consider the wall as his top priority).

When the Comey memo story broke out, it was the worst market day since Trump got elected. Between that Syrian army convoy getting blown up in that de-escalation zone and this arms deal, market will rally. Nothing restores market confidence like things that go boom getting sold and used.

It is what it is.
