Sessions Announces Religious Liberty Task Force

Sorry, but you are totally misinformed. There is no such a law which persecutes you just because you are homosexual in Russia. I know you mean the anti gay propaganda law, but this is not even close to a general gay ban. I am not aware of even one case of persecution, just because you were born gay in Russia.
https://www.nytimes.com/2013/12/28/opinion/life-under-russias-gay-propaganda-ban.html

From the article:
They have put forward a proposal — shelved for now — that would let the government remove children from homosexual parents.
There have been only a few prosecutions, but the law has begun to bite in other ways. In Arkhangelsk, it has been used to refuse authorization of street demonstrations. And the father of Varya’s child, heretofore absent, had begun using it to threaten a custody case

It's how it starts.

You don't start the banning of something by banning it. You start eating away at the outsides of it. It's like termites destroying a house. They don't just show up and then the house is leveled the next day... they take out bits and pieces before it finally collapses under it's own weight and everyone goes "HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?!"

Which law made it illegal to be gay? Paste the body of the law here. That sounds horrible.
The actual law says "no gay propaganda" but the body of it sounds like they basically are making it illegal to "mention or display it in front of children" so... it's de facto seemingly illegal at that point unless you're in like a strip club or some other place where kids can't be.

So why can’t people just be gay or straight without plastering their sexuality everywhere. Wouldn’t that be nicer than exposing children to over-sexualisation?

I don’t see the big deal tbh.

Well, there's plastering it everywhere like people that wear shirts that say "Gay Pride" and walk around in a G-string on pride weekend but what about in the comfort of your own home?

You basically can't be intimate with your partner with your kid around then.

And given this is the country that used to have the GRU and KGB........ your own home might not be all that secure.

I don't like this law too, but how mentioned - it doesn't persecute you just because you are gay. Do you guys even understand my argument here? It is an anti propaganda law.

- just being gay in Russia is not a crime. for example, you will not lose your job if you are gay.
- on the other hand, being gay in many islamic countries is a crime. Alone the fact that you were born gay, is a crime!
- same with atheistic driven countries like NK. Also way worse than Russia.

So why always mocking Christians first? You can only name Russia as a negative example...

Who gets intimate with their partner around their kids?

Hopefully they don’t make adultery illegal.

well, that solves the eternal problem of what to get the missus for her anniversary.....

Why can't people be Christian without plastering it every where?

I like how nobody is even pretending that this will be defending the religious liberties of anyone other than Christian conservatives.

For a more "complete" post it's pretty well known/seen where I stand political in this subforum.

That said, the Christian bullshit of going after homosexuals and other non-straight people drives me fucking nuts. People love who they love, what goddamn difference does it fucking matter?

Add to that that the Romans and the Greeks were well known to sleep with basically anything that had two legs and a heartbeat (in the case of crazies like Caligula four legs sometimes too) and the only reason I can think of those passages showing up in the Bible and other holy books for Abrahamic Religions is they were pissed that same team fuckers killed their prophets.
people just have to mind other's business, and love to tell others what to do....

Regarding say gay relationships, I never understood why EVERYONE doesn't have this view: 'I don't want to do it, might even find it disgusting, but I could not care less what you do. Go for it!' Just view it as you would a guy that is dating a really fat unattractive women......

Ban for bodyshaming. :p

Agreed. When it comes to what people do in their personal lives as long as it's consensual and not like kiddie fucking I don't get the big fucking deal.

Exactly, as long its not abusing someone or weird/illegal (say bestiality, or obviously rape)....

Like I hate mayonnaise, find it disgusting (I know, i'm a picky eater)......but why would I care if you like it? How does that effect me? It doesn't.....

Same w/ when the Religious Right was hating on porn and violence in movies.....oh word? don't watch then......There's no need to go Authoritarian and prevent others from pursuing that though

No... the more I have looked at the old school "pagan" religions the more they "make sense" (at least the Nordic ones as the Greek Gods were fucking dicks that constantly meddled in human affairs)... they existed to protect mankind from other like spiritual/celestial otherworldly threats but largely left mankind to their own devices.

The evangelical right would have this country ruled under a Christian equivalent of sharia law if they have their way. Looks like step 1 to me.

There's already people in Congress that think you shouldn't serve if you don't swear on a bible.

It's amazing how the GOP and evangelicals are able to rule and ruin the country despite being the minority. It reminds me of south Africa's white rule despite being the minority.

There is a vast right wing conspiracy to turn America into... what's a real worst case modern scenario? Utah? How awful!

But seriously, this looks a lot like hating on people whose views and ideas you, and a lot of the thread, do not understand.

For a reasonable, and non- hyperbolic response from the right:

For one thing, several prominent commentators slammed religious-liberty protections as existing to shield only Christianity — or even as an effort to sanction the supposed bigotry of conservative Christians. Completely ignored by these malevolent pundits is the fact that religious Americans, no matter what sect or denomination they belong to, can file a complaint with the Justice Department for violations of their religious free exercise.

This new task force — and the Department of Justice behind it — will protect the rights of any and all religious Americans who have been fired, sanctioned, or otherwise punished for exercising their faith, or who have been coerced into violating their conscience. No part of that mission is limited to social conservatives or to Christian Americans, nor is there any evidence that religious-liberty protections have been enforced only in cases of discrimination against Christians.

Better read it fast before the fundamentalists outlaw the internet and institute witch trials.
