Should Blaydes retire from MMA? The sport will not treat him well

Reem is a fighter sherdoggers want to see. Overeem has never made any impact on the UFC's ppv sales.

..and sherdoggers are those who're asking for the Reem to fight for a title.
Not the casuals.

Obviously most of the entire roster should retire right now because they aren't likely to be champions or make tens of millions.

Overall? You know that most of the UFC fighters are in crappy financial condition.
But in case of Blaydes, he will simply not be a champion anyone wants.

Ngannou was ready for that takedown. His TDD was locked ready and loaded. Unfortunately it was a wild winging punch that dropped Curtis. Hell Curtis even blocked it I believe. Francis does have stupid power.

^This is exactly why fighters should have an exit plan in mind when they realize what their ceiling is.

The sport is brutal.

Only a handful of guys make real money.

...and the fans are fucking scumbags who have no respect whatsoever for the majority of fighters who get into the cage/ring.

Where else is Blaydes going to make a couple hundred thousand per year with a chance to make more if he keeps improving (or just sticks in the top 5 or 6)?

You have no clue what Blaydes got paid. China does not release fight payouts. How do you people still not know this shit?

His last recorded payout was 19K to show.
Trust me, UFC will NOT overpay him.

Best luck he gets 30K now.

He’s currently only top guy under 30

Dc
Stipe
cain
Jds
Werdum
Ngannou will prolly all be retired in 3 years or so

If nobody else shows up it’s his division just by default lol

Yeah, that's a fair point...even though they might actually not retire for another decade.
MMA is rotting...old fighters get recycled.

I mean if these guys are making the average salary after expenses then I would say they are doing good. I would rather fight in the UFC for ~60k per year than having a soul crushing 9-5 job.

lol. dude. its fucking HEAVYWEIGHT.

He could sit on his ass and wait around after this loss, and STILL get a titleshot in the next year.

19k is ridiculous. He's a Top 5 in HW and was close to a title shot for god sake. He should hire Ali to be his manager.

Nowhere. And he won't get it in the UFC either.

Curtis Blaydes made a minimum150,000 dollars in just fight night payouts last year, for 2 fights.

Yea no way his new contract could get him 200k.

For how much some of you bitch about ufc pay you have no fucking clue.

Yup that's me. Guilty as charged. I don't respect the fighters. The sport is a joke. Vote for Conor. Blah. Blah. Blah.

But you are correct. Anyone entering any profession where long term damage is a very real possibility, should enter it with a backup plan for afterward.

1. He's a grinder. Even though he showed improved striking with Overeem, he does not have a style people will pay to see.
There were a lot of wrestlers like this in UFC. They didn't last long. He can last longer, because he's the most talented from them - but should he?
2. He lost twice to the same contender. His availability for the title shot will be no earlier than 2020. Meanwhile he'll fight for peanuts.
3. Other companies will not be too interested in him, in case his contract expires. He's not interesting in any way, besides being a HW. But he's too good for his own good - no one will want him to hold a title, and he can't be fed to someone.
4. He's still relatively young. Yes, 27 is young enough. He can continue education and move to a stable job. Even as wrestling coach.
5. He's still in good health. He wasn't even fully knocked out. Or suffered serious injuries. Good time to get out healthy.
If fighters had the mentality ur describing we would not see great fighters in the UFC. These fighters need experience, both bad and good, to see how far they can go in the sport. Do you even know anything about Curtis? Did you know that hes UFC debut 2,5 years a go against Francis was hes 3rd mma fight and that he trained mma attending regular mma classes at a non pro gym 3-4 times a week leading up to hes debut? This dude basicly started to train pro mma 2,5 yrars a go and he has had wins agains Hunt and Overeem and ur sugesting he hangs them up at an age of 27 after trying this sport for a couple of yrars?

Hes ground game is NASTY, he cuts u up with elbows and leaves a bloody mess in the octagon , sure promotions would pay to have him maul in their orgs.

He made 105,000 the fight with Reem. Don't listen to this idiot. Hes literally making shit up

Stop spreading this nonsense. He renegotiated his contract in March and is "very happy" and has talked about only caring about money. You have no clue what you're talking about.

BLAYDES IS NOT MAKING 32K A FIGHT. Heavyweights have always gotten paid. He's making a damn good living.
