Should Blaydes retire from MMA? The sport will not treat him well

Yeah I agree it's probably best to get out now while he can, idk if he's always slurred his speech but something tells me sparring with other HW's leads to more accelerated brain damage. Of course he won't leave because he's a disciple of the JBG, and will continue to get brutally finished or give us brutal finishes like this

No shame in losing to Francis, Stipe was one wrong move from the same outcome.

Good lord what an awesome gif! Overoid has given us SO many glorious gifs of being brutalized it's not even funny.

All it will take is one win, preferably with something splashy like the elbows that sliced Reem up, and people will be talking him up again for a TS — it's heavyweight after all. Look how fast we've moved on from petitioning Reem to retire and digging a grave for Ngannou's career. His wrestling style hasn't inspired universal whining about it being boring, like with Fitch and Askren, and I still remember how he took Adam Milstead to Suplex City. And honestly, the sheer novelty of being a decent HW under the age of 30 can make up for a LOT in the fans' minds. I'm far more sanguine (hah) about Blaydes' future career than you are. Admittedly he's been getting staggered more than desirable for long term health concerns, but it's not nearly the time for the Schaub talk.

Actually, Rogan took a lot of heat (initially) for advising Schaub to retire...

And BTW, much more eyes went on Schaub. He was very popular (for good and for bad reasons) and people ALWAYS watched him fight.

$30k? So he makes more in 1 fight than he does in an entire year of whatever he'd be doing.

Of course he can. The issue is, the sport is not in a place where it was when Werdum hit his lower lows. And Werdum ALWAYS was appreciated by MMA more than Blaydes was.

Blaydes like any HW fighter is never more than a couple of wins away from title contention, if he can change his camp and get some spectacular wins to grab the casuals imagination and do this just as his contract is ending, he can get a bigger jump in pay.......

Yeah, and that's a big IF.
Of course he can...the issue is, he doesn't seem to want to. If he does do it, it will be by occasion.

Yeaaah....there are two small issues though:
1. He spends a shit load of time on training camp;
2. He PAYS for this training camp.

Other than that yeah, gets paid 30K for 15 min. LOL

He has a high school education man. He's probably gonna stick with what earns him 90k/90k a year with the potential to go to millions in a few years, lol. Also he gets to be a UFC cage fighter, so much more badass than being a janitor or something.

I get it, but he's relatively young as I mentioned in the OP. He can finish the study.
And he can always be a wrestling coach, which will have him occupied very well

Sounds familiar.

Daniel Cormier can use his earnings for way more investment power than the earnings Curtis Blaydes could. He also has much more exposure and fanbase, which show good character and can lead to plenty more opportunity.

Blaydes is in a tough place. 32k. He has to divide that.

The issue also is - that would've been enough a decade ago - with sponsors, with fanbase less about cheap "entertainment".
Today MMA is in such a crappy state, that a suggestion for a YOUNG fighter to retire is more justifiable than for an older one.

1. He's a grinder. Even though he showed improved striking with Overeem, he does not have a style people will pay to see.
There were a lot of wrestlers like this in UFC. They didn't last long. He can last longer, because he's the most talented from them - but should he?
2. He lost twice to the same contender. His availability for the title shot will be no earlier than 2020. Meanwhile he'll fight for peanuts.
3. Other companies will not be too interested in him, in case his contract expires. He's not interesting in any way, besides being a HW. But he's too good for his own good - no one will want him to hold a title, and he can't be fed to someone.
4. He's still relatively young. Yes, 27 is young enough. He can continue education and move to a stable job. Even as wrestling coach.
5. He's still in good health. He wasn't even fully knocked out. Or suffered serious injuries. Good time to get out healthy.

No offence but I don’t need to read the post to answer

No...
He’s a heavyweight
And one that uses his style to try and get minimal damage
Heavyweights can go into their 40’s band still be relevant
The division is weak as piss
He can still improve

Erm just no

1. Yes.
2. The situation won't likely change for the better for him, especially in the UFC
3. He's young enough to have other options

How can you decide whats worth it for him? Is it even relevant what fans think?
Do you have a set prise tag for what fighters should be making in order for it to be "worth" it for them to risk CTE?
What do you know about hes other options in life? Mabey he sucks at school big time and the only thing in life he mastered at a high level is wrestling and fighting...
Even if hes situation doesn't change it might be worth it for him to have tried to follow hes dream to become UFC champ, even though he failed at the end.

I see that you're a biy slow, so I will repeat:

ILLINOIS ATHLETIC COMMISSION DOES NOT REVEAL THE PAYOUTS.

So whichever ass you pulled the "75k" number, please put it back.
Either you made it up, or you took it from Fake Newz site.

Lol, what a clown you are. Performance of the night bonus has nothing ti do with comission. UFC reveals it u dumb fuckwitt. He earned 50k in potn bonus, 5k in reebok money, 25k to show + win bonus.

You've just made the dumbest thread of the month and you keep posting dumb shit. Fucking sherdog kid telling a 27 yrs old heavywieght to retire, because he lost for a second time in his career. Go back to books.

Matt Hughes lost to Dennis Hallman twice. Second loss was at age 27, same as Blaydes. Had won zero UFC belts at that point, his pay was shit, and his style and personality weren't marketable.

Fast forward 6 years, and Hughes is an icon.
