Nate's Boxing Is So Overrated

Conor. Not a fan of him.
But, his boxing in MMA is masterclass.
If two MMA fighters agree to only box, he is potentially the best. Though Masvidal is crisp too.
Miocic.
A few others

I say it again. ALL THAT MATTERS IS HOW EFFECTIVE IT IS.

I agree.
We both have to admit something though.
He looks uncoordinated, slow and sloppy, but somehow he manages to light a lot of people up.

Overrated? Yes.
Effective? Yes.

He looks so goofy and i laugh watching him throw hands. Everything he does in a fight looks like it shouldn't work, but it usually does.
I don't get where the slow part comes from, his 1,2's look pretty fast to me.

If he didn’t have a great chin or great cardio nobody would be talking about his “great” boxing

The problem is it doesn't usually work. His record is 20-12

Then you don't watch his fights.
Nate cant beat wrestlers. Nate has out struck plenty of guys. Go through his list of losses and see if you dont see a pattern there.
Again, I agreed that his boxing is overrated, but to claim it doesnt usually work is silly man.

I agree it has some flaws but it's entertaining and seems to work when he gets super confident and starts taking over. His fight v. Cerrone was a master performance.

Don't really understand people saying the "if you take away his chin and cardio" stuff, chin and cardio are an integral part of his gameplan, if you remove them from him he's an entirely different fighter. Might as well remove his reach or his jitz or anything else.

He dominated guys like Michael Johnson and Cerrone on the feet using primarily just his boxing, that says something. You can criticize his technique all you want, and some of it is valid, but at the end of the day if you're judging by effectiveness his boxing has been proven to be very good.

In addition to his 1-2 his check hook is also on the money and he spammed it on Conor a few times even before Conor ran out of gas. I think his speed is also deceiving , fresh round 1 Michael Johnson is fast as hell and Nate rolled a lot of his shots and also beat him to the punch (although admittedly not as often as he did in rounds 2&3).

Nick's is definately better though, he did a lot of good work in the Silva fight but that was overlooked because people just remember his clowning. Nick put some beautiful body to head combos together in that fight.
Fresh Rnd 1 Michael Johnson is a world beater.

Yeah.

Everytime Nate faced a top guy he got dominated. Who is his best win? Conor at 170 coming from 145? Maybe 2011 Cerrone?

He looked like he didn't even belong there with RDA, Benson Henderson, Masvidal, Josh Thomson.

The supremacy of Nate Diaz's boxing relative to his peers is perhaps the biggest myth on Sherdog history (okay not really, but it is still untruthful).

For some reason, people mistakenly assume boxing to be a simple act of throwing hands. This however, is not the case.

Boxing is much more than just spamming the 1 and 2. Footwork, striking defense, bobbing/weaving, countering, etc etc, all play an integral part of being a 'good' boxer.

Nate's striking defense is non-exist - unless you count blocking punches with your face as striking defense.

Nate's footwork is absolutely horrendous - he uses his upper body to throw punches, hardly ever getting any torque from his legs.

Nate doesn't bob, weave or counter - instead he stands upright and takes punches to the dome.

Yes, MMA boxing is different from regular boxing and often times a traditional boxing stance is a negative in this sport. That however, does not explain the lack of striking defense nor the lack of footwork.

But yes, Nate does have a splendid 1, 2.

<36>
he is not a good boxer, he can brawl but overall boxing is not great

Nate is a Hall of Famer and been in the game ten plus years. Made more money than anyone in the lightweight division except for BJ Penn. He also has 15 wins with some questionable decision losses. But yeah , some Sherdogger says he's overrated, so it must be so.

I do watch his fights, in a lot of his losses he actually got outstruck as well as outwrestled. Especially in the Ben Henderson fight where he got dropped a shit ton when the fight was standing.

You should watch them again.

Imagine how effective he'd be if he had either quick & athletic footwork or heavy punching power.
