Francis Ngannou on Jon Jones: 'He finds himself a better battle on Twitter than the octagon

Probably not even Jones was aware of how much weight DC was cutting at the time (rehydrated to approximately 236 lbs against Rumble)

www.sportsjoe.ie/youll-struggle-to-believe-how-much-weight-daniel-cormier-put-on-between-weigh-ins-and-fight-night-121754

LHW DC was already a decent sized HW.
Yes but the weight cut has an effect on you so my point still stands. If you're going to fight someone at a given weight, would you rather fight them the day after a massive weight cut, or not after a weight cut?

LHW DC and HW DC are not necessarily the same guy

Jon Jones himself said years ago that he was unwilling to rematch DC at HW because he didn't want to give DC a size advantage

There's literally a 10-12lb, or 5% weight difference. Let's not fantasize that it was the difference between bruce banner and the hulk.

Again, the difference is not just the weight difference in the cage. It's also the effects of having gone through a weight cut vs no weight cut.

Jon Jones fought DC twice at LHW but was not willing to fight him at HW as he felt that would have given DC an advantage. To what extent that would have been true, we'll never know.

Pretty ironic now considering that hes been bragging all year about being a solid 260 lbs now, in better shape than most UFC HW, including Cormier.

He was still fat at LHW so the cut was not like dillasnake going to FLW or even Till cutting to WW, and Cormier said jones would win at any weight, PEDs or not.

If Francis Ngannou works things out with the UFC, he’s not confident that Jon Jones would be his next opponent.

Ngannou (17-3 MMA, 12-2 UFC) successfully unified his heavyweight title against Ciryl Gane in the main event of UFC 270, and one of the sport’s biggest stars has been waiting in the wings.

But with former UFC light heavyweight king Jones (26-1 MMA, 20-1 UFC) inactive since February 2020 and having his own negotiations to sort out with the promotion, Ngannou is tired of addressing him as a potential next opponent.

“I think the first thing we have to know is if Jon Jones is going to fight or not,” Ngannou said on Bruce Buffer’s “IT’S TIME!!!” podcast. “Because actually, he finds himself a better battle on Twitter than in the octagon.”

Ngannou entered his title defense against Gane with a grade 3 tear in his MCL, as well as damage to his ACL, which will need surgery to repair. The champion is planning on going under the knife in the first quarter of 2022, which will potentially sideline him for the majority of the year – if not the entirety of it.

“July is not possible because I’m having surgery in March,” Ngannou revealed.

When Ngannou’s negotiations with the UFC fell apart last year, the promotion made an interim title fight that saw Gane defeat Derrick Lewis at UFC 265 in August. So with Ngannou forced on the shelf for a much longer period this time, the UFC could be looking at another interim title, especially if Jones enters the picture.

But based on the division’s recent title history and activity, Ngannou doesn’t think that’s necessary.

“The past has shown that in the heavyweight division, they can wait for a year for a title defense,” Ngannou said. “We’ve been having one title defense (per year) in the heavyweight division for a long time, so I don’t think that’s the issue.”

Despite both UFC president Dana White and Ngannou questioning his actual return, Jones seemed excited to compete after watching Ngannou retain his title earlier this month.

He's right you know :)

Jones left the lhw division so that he would not have to be forced to fight again to avoid being stripped of the title. He also lost the title kn his last two fights and the competition there was getting too intense and he could sense that he was no longer the same fighter that be was with the same edge that he used to have over his opposition. Right now he is holding out for one last huge big money fight to exploit his unbeaten GOAT status becsuse once he loses, he will never get the big bucks again and he knows there is a big chance he will lose especially against ngannou or gane. Those here who think of Jones as the unbeatable goat need to realise that Jones is probably long gone...

Yeah its not p4p great but you cant exactly find big let aloner bigger skilled men if you yourself are cutting water weight to make 265lbs.

When Lesnar and Big Foot and Carwin and Lewis are all 280lbs to 295lbs who is bigger? 30lbs is basically hitting a max before death or severe health issues. Even in open weight few men minus 7 foot giants who have muscles would be over 300lbs let alone over 330lbs exxept obese or roided strongmen who are usually 6"5 to 6"9 and weigh 350lbs to 440lbs
True but the real GOAT was 6', about 225lbs and chubby in his prime...he could have followed the same chickenshit path as jones but chose to test his skills and prove his greatness, as opposed to assuming greatness on twitter.

@20falarVerdades

Jon has been suspended for 2 years for PEDs and he will never fight at HW unless it's against someone old and washed

As a matter of fact Jones is a small to medium sized LHW. He's about 220lbs in cage.

Daniel used to be one of the biggest weight cutters in the division, being north of 235 lbs in cage. It is not a stretch to say that Jones has already literally beaten the mythical "HW Daniel Cormier", who's much better than Ngannou himself.
jon, you are such a fucking crackhead, it's LITERALLY hilarious. You are only 220 in the cage because you cut down to 205 and can't put it all back on in a day. Also, Cormier killed himself to make weight and was extremely depleted, you can't run away from the fact that you refused to fight him at HW because he would be stronger. The bullshit part is that you've always walked around at 245lbs but have never had the balls to truly test yourself. You've done well for yourself at LHW and have established yourself as a UFC great so I think you should take the accolades that you get, on and off Sherdog, and shut the fuck up. Stay off of twitter and just walk away.

You have become a sad, sad little man...

Thee biggest creep ever. Saw him at a Vegas nightclub yrs ago (1st time I've ever seen a 50yr old man wearing a bedazzled button-down)... How he doesn't have multiple sexual harassment suits against him is still a mystery to me.

LOL, that description matches the perp!
