It absolutely is important if you think about it. Neither of those guys were in their primes when Colby beat them.
Which is why other than RDA they're all gone.
He's got an entire top 10 of solid WWs and a top 5 of monsters and he won't fight a single one? It's corny

He fought Usman twice and the money fight in Jorge. If he's not fighting for a title, might as well get the biggest pay day.
 
I don't understand how you're all still unaware that $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ means more to these guys than an arbitrary top 10 Sherdog list. What's going to sell more PPVs? Covington Vs Poirier or Covington vs Luque?

That call out is for personal reasons and not for rankings. It makes sense.

He lost the title 3x (stripped, loss and loss), a few filler fights and fights to rebound back into contention is not a bad thing, would you not watch it?
 
Colby knows he needs to rack up the wins to (a) keep himself relevant and get that increased payday and (b) earn another shot at Usman. He's not going to get another shot without 3-4 wins so he's very sensible in picking someone with name value that on paper seems a very winnable fight. This is exactly the right call out for Colby to be making at this time.
