Elections President Trump…

Based on the midterms I don't expect him to have the bullet proof backing from his party that he enjoyed last time around.

He didn't have it last time, really. Party elites don't like him because he's out for himself only and doesn't care about the party and isn't reliably ideological, plus he's an idiot and corrupt AF. But GOP voters love him, and the party is going to go along with it if they can't rally people behind RDS or some other alternative.

True but once they realized they were stuck with him even the party elites who disliked him towed the line.
His endorsement didn't mean nearly as much as it used to during these midterms. That makes him vulnerable.

Let's hope his ego sinks the Republican party beyond recovery and we can finally get rid of the cancer of conservatism

Yep. If he regains power they will use him to further their crap agenda but they will turn their backs on him as soon as it doesn’t hurt them politically. Seems the shunning has begun but will it stick with his announcement? Too early to tell.

If not for that massive landslide win for DeSantis, Trump probably stomps everyone on his way to another nomination. But I think it's different now. The fear of Trump isn't gone within the party, but there's just a lot of genuine dislike of him and now there's a guy that the anti-Trump R's can rally behind and who they believe will stand up to him and straight beat him in the primary. The downside for a lot of them is that DeSantis ideologically still aligns with Trump a lot.

Trump splitting the party to run as an Independent is the wild card of course. I imagine the behind the scenes battles regarding that aspect would be interesting to hear. Putting his actual supporters aside, how many will begrudgingly still side with him because of the threat of him handing the Dems the election were he not to get the nomination? How many will stick to their guns and back DeSantis even in knowing it may mean almost no chance of winning the presidency?
