First off, the clientele are a bunch of computer nerds... Secondly, why tf should they endanger their safety for Apple? Apple doesn't care about them.

It's the principal of the matter. Not wanting to live in a society where people think they're free to rob others while the general public just stands there and does nothing.

There are some communities where this kind of behavior isn't frowned on. It's seen as just hustling to get ahead in an unjust world.

That was my take as well while reading that.

If it was a mom and pop store, then maybe people would intervene. But, it's Apple. The largest corporation in the world. It's worth 2.3 trillion.
 
Looks like the Palo Alto store on University Ave. I wonder if the devices have 'find my device' activated. I'm sure apple could set up all devices to disable outside of the store except for the device location finding service.

Look I don't care about Apple whatsoever, it's the mentality that worries me.
If a girl was getting raped in the middle of the mall, there would be a hundred people walking by so they didn't get involved...and that my friend, is a scary thought.
 
Doesn't this happen to an apple store every six months?

I thought they were supposed to have put measures in place to keep this from happening... Like not leaving so much stock out in the open for one.

I think that's a far stretch. The bystander effect is a thing, but just because people don't care about a multi-billion dollar company losing merchandise doesn't necessarily mean they'd be apathetic to an abhorrent crime like rape. Sure there'd be some overlap on the Venn diagram, but it wouldn't be much.

Someone just posted a video on here of a girl getting slept by a big dude in the street and all she was trying to do was stop them from stomping on her already unconscious bf....know what happened?

That is disheartening. I detest that sort of behavior.

On the other hand, I've seen videos (and of course anecdotes) of dudes who will step up and put on the cape at the slightest offense to defend a woman's honor, in some cases, even a stranger.

I suppose both have occurred. I think the biggest factor is ONE person being the catalyst, by stepping up and the rest of the people usually follow suit. It's a psychological phenomenon and usually something I teach. Nonetheless, I would put this example and the OP in entirely different tiers/categories.
