Matching Up Paddy Pimblett

Looking at the entirety of the UFC Light Weight Division (and rankings), who do you see the UFC matching Paddy Pimblett up with next (and/or who would you match him up with?)

I used Ranking MMA for this exercise: https://rankingmma.com/ufc-rankings/lightweight/

Conor would have been ideal but he only wants WW.

I actually think Bobby Green might be next for him. Bobby is good at losing decisions. If Paddy can beat Bobby then he deserved ranked next, likewise if Bobby beats Paddy he deserves another run at ranked opponents.

Would be a good fight they both have a shot of winning and gives Paddy a "name" to fight.

People who say Dober, I don't think it will happen after the loss. That is too risky for Paddy with little upside after Dober just lost.

Paddy cakes is the only one undefeated in the ufc of that list! What bawss hog outlaw!

I basically see Pimblett as a grappler with opportunistic subs, questionable wrestling, some power in his hands, a good chin, and questionable striking defense.

#29 Claudio Puelles would be a very interesting matchup - grappler vs. leg lock specialist, and Paddy would have the striking advantage. Both hold wins over Jordan Leavitt (Puelles by decision, Paddy by sub). However since Puelles is coming off a loss (on the main card of a PPV to Dan Hooker), pairing them together might seem like the UFC admitting Paddy really lost his last fight.

Assuming the UFC wants to protect Paddy a little bit, I would worry about him against anyone ranked or against really explosive strikers but I'd feel comfortable with Paddy against any of the unranked grapplers in the division. A match with someone like Jim Miller, Clay Guida, Joe Solecki, Vinc Pichel or Mark O. Madsen might make sense.

Those are some really solid, realistic choices. I really feel like we'll probably see him against Guida or Miller next. Big enough names they can call a step up and biggest fight of his career, but striking wise, not huge threats to KO him (you never know though), and so it comes down to grappling, which is Paddy's best skill.

Jim Miller for the awesome scrambles

That would be a lot of fun. I could definitely see that happening. Maybe they go Guida/Miller back to back in his next two fights.

Drew Dober please. Let him kill Paddy

haha! I agree they should but they would never. They won't risk that.

If they want to push him probably Dan Hooker or Damir Ismagulov. If they want to bring him up slower than a guy like Brad Riddell or Diego Ferreira.

Honestly, I think Ismagulov & Ferreira make easy work of Paddy. I think Hooker would as well, barring he doesn't somehow end up on the ground tangled up. I could see him piecing up Paddy on the feet then hitting a knee as Paddy shoots for a takedown. In the past I'd say Riddell would win easily too, but Idk about his chin these days, he's had a lot of wars, and if Paddy got him to the ground it likely wouldn't go well for Riddell.

The guy I'd like to see him fight is Arman. HUGE step up for Paddy but the time is now.

With all due respect, I think Arman kills Paddy in their.

paddys best bang for the buck would be hooker.

he might be able to beat him.

other than that, he gets sparked by anyone above him in rank,

and thats only if he wrestlefucks hooker

I just don't know if he's got the ability to wrestlef*** Hooker. He could give him some problems with subs, but I think Hooker would piece him up on the feet.

i don't like his chances against any of those guys

When you see the whole list laid out like this, it's quite interesting right? Realistically anyone from 1-45 is tough and a side form a few I see him getting beat by almost all of them. Realistically it looks like they should be matching him up with guys ranked 46-60, and even there are some match ups that they won't want to give him. Pretty wild.

Hateful and stupid. Now way to go through life.
Paddy is still the same dude that lost to Soren Bak and got a gifted decision against Erosa

His daddy Dana can only protect him so long.. he will get chinned and all you morons will forget about him.

The hardcore fanbase has a much higher opinion of Dan Hooker, Damir Ismagulov, and Guram Kutateladze then their skills merit.

I anticipate the UFC will match him up with one of these guys.

I think any of those 3 waste him

Ismagulov and Hooker havent wasted anyone with punches in either of their last nine fights. They would both have a big technical striking advantage but thats it.

It's interesting with Paddy, because every fight looks difficult for him.

It's not like we're witnessing Islam Makhachev-level talent where he's matched against Nik Lentz and Kajan Johnson, and you know it's a foregone conclusion.

I wouldn't be surprised if anyone in the top 30 beat him.

Of course, if he beats them, it keeps the intrigue going.

Maybe Guida, Riddell I dont know.

He's gonna hit the middle of the div now and there arent any easy fights. I mean Madsen, Guram, Dober, diego, Glenn, Klose, Pichel, like none of these are easy fights.

i thought Guida just cause he's a legend of hte div, older guy, not really a serious knockout threat but thats not sexiest fight and people want him to take a major step up.

I remember when all these dumbass haters said Yan was gonna murder Sean.
