While we get a occasional threads about how karelin, Kurt angle, Sanderson or lebron James would have done if they entered mma in their primes and did it full time, do we overlook the potential ray mercer had?

world boxing champion and hall of famer came over at a very old age and with limited actual mma training absolutely blew the UFCs all time greatest HW at the time in Timmeh (had record ufc title defences until Stipe surpassed it beating geriatrics) away.

he beat Timmeh faster then even Fedor (who had over a decade of mma experience and training under his belt) could.

In the 9 second clinic he put on the best ufc had ever produced (till then) Mercer: knocked him out standing, executed a takedown and put in some GnP too. A complete display of mma skill sets at the most break neck pace in mma history.

Mercer would have been the GOAT had he come over even at age 30 or so

And he was ready to go for a takedown if Tim was not out.
He did and it should count. Ref didn’t stop the fight till the 9 second mark. Within the 9 seconds mercer had finished him standing, executed a takedown and showed insane top position transition before landing the final blow.

one had to slow this video down 7x to see all the diverse mma skills mercer displayed in 9 mere seconds

Mercer with six months of BJJ would have been UFC GOAT and borderline top 15 in Pride FC.
He lost to Kimbo… and with much more than just 6 month of bjj…

lol at GOAT. More like Robbie lawler level at best. Which is in itself still a big deal nonetheless.

wrong on so many levels.

mercer never lost an mma fight
Mercer at 47 years old took part in a scripted exhibition non sanctioned bout to help promote Kimbo.

Mercer was supposed to have another mma fight after the Timmy ko but it got cancelled due to medicals I believe?

Oh please.

He sent Sylvia into the shadow realm 15 years ago. That's his legacy in MMA but don't overhype him to be anything other than a slightly improved Kimbo Slice.

That is a whole lot of nonsense.

His exhibition with Kimbo is irrelevant and was two years before knocking Tim out. And no, he didn’t have six months of dedicated BJJ training. He explicitly said afterwards he did zero training outside of stand up.

Good effort though.

Mercer vs. Sylvia was scripted.

My proof? The same as yours.
