TWood was never close to GSP or Hughes

Aljo was never close to TJ or Cruz

but that didnt stop the comps. Like clockwork. Both fought and were active but had too many sus performances and disputed controversial decisions. Its only wikiwatchers who dont apply context to fights that thought they were GOATs. Both had 3 title defenses.

Aljo might be top 5 BW alltime but hes not even clearly better than prime Barao whos 3rd or 4th.

TWood is barely top 10. It is what it is.

That TWood era was unbearable. Just proof of how many fans have no clue of what they're watching.

People saying that Wonderboy was a better win than any fighter on GSPs resume. Dude, you talking about the guy who's begging for strikers because he has no ground game.

Flavor of the month.

Woodley did have a dynamite Championship win when he shadow realmed Robbie Lawler for the belt.

1/4 of his defenses were hot garbage though, and yet he acted like God’s gift to WW. I can’t imagine how insufferable Garry is gonna be if he gets the strap. Crikey.

Its the same for every champ. They will be talking about Sean being the GOAT soon enough even tho he got his title shot by a robbery win and then won the belt with an early stoppage and will duck all the real threats of the division.

Woodley run was legit though. Nothing compared to GSP but still a very solid run nonetheless

I cant stand the GOAT conversations with the UFC. There's no reason why they need to do it. Just let the fucking time pass. It's like they rush into it every time.

That being said, Aljo ran through Cory and beat Cejudo and Yan. TJ was injured ok fine. Either way he still has 3 very good wins. People are going to do what they do.

I like a healthy mix of "he's the GOAT" when winning and "he was never any good" when he loses.

Peak Sherdog.

I pushed back against both being GOAT real time hard.

Both are very good. Great even. But never were close to GOATs to anyone with any fight IQ.

suga beats the breaks of midget tj and sleeps awkward cruz.

Aljo is MUCH better than twood, people forget that Aljo had 3 straight top 5 wins going into the fight with yan the first time. he won the second fight certainly.

I agree he's not goat status or anything but definately better champ than woodley

I respect Sterling and don't support the hate, great fighter, but I don't buy the GOAT narrative.

Scammed his way to a title.
Then split decision win where he took more damage than he did. The W was fair and square but it's one of those fights that make you question the scoring criteria.
TJ fight shouldn't have been sanctioned. Doesn't count as a legit title defense in my book.
Cejudo is a great win on paper but he came off a 3 year layoff. Not sure that was prime Cejudo.

I realize you can nitpick everone's resume. I just think Aljo's is particularly deceptive.

Talent pool has been rotating a lot in these lighter weight classes. I don't know that Sterling was quite as good as TJ or Cruz because he's still quite a specialist, where both had evolved their skills quite a bit. Sterling was talented enough to make some good fighters compete in his world, but his reign was short and not without controversy.
