Seems Uncle Dana heard the word around town that everyone thinks the rematch idea is ridiculous and undeserved so has kinda walked back his comments on doing the rematch next.

What do you guys think, will he give poor little Lizzy the undeserved rematch or will he go in another direction?

He wants to wait and see whether or not Khamzat wins. If he does, and he thinks he can set him up to fight Strickland, then he will weight the impact of that.

Gonna disagree on that one. Beating Whitaker is way more deserving of a shot at the belt than beating either Costa or chimaev.
Whittaker's got no chin.
Finished by a jab plus punches. Got dropped by a jab in Adesanya rematch.
Got hurt in against every opponent minus the Vetttori fight. That's since winning the interim title back in 2017.
Also, hasn't finished anyone since beating Jacare.

I dont think izzy will be champ again unless he gets an instant rematch

A few things:

1. The fact John Morgan asked it means already Dana was already open to reconsidering his answer. Morgan is the ultimate puppet who never, EVER asks a question he isn't supposed to ask.

2. UFC does pay attention to fan sentiment. They likely saw the poll here where more than 90% of fans said they don't want the rematch. This would NOT be the first time that they planned plan A and then after fans let it be known plan A would receive SIGNIFICANT pushback they then transition to plan B. So keep it up guys / stay loud.

3. It is also entirely possible Izzy told Dana "hey I don't want an insta-rematch right now"

Other way around for me, have Izzy/DDP and have Sean fight the winner of Khamzat/Costa
Nah, he he beat Whittaker who hasn't lost to anyone except Izzy in years. It was signed as a #1 contenders match. Plus he's been actively fighting while Costa and Khamzat have been sitting on the shelf. He's definitely more deserving.

On paper, if you have a champ with a solid amount of defenses, and he loses the belt, you give him a rematch. If he wins the belt back, the loss should be somewhat forgiven. After that, if he loses the belt AGAIN, you have grounds for a reasonable discussion that he deserves another rematch.

The reasoning would be that a true champion should be able to beat the old champ again. I think that's fair and don't think anyone here will argue against that, even if there is no rematch. If you're champion material, you should be consistent- It would be nice to see if Sean can do it again. In addition, he hasn't lost to Sean before that fight, as he did to Alex. So there is even more reason to erase the loss to Alex and give the rematch. I think money gets the final vote, though.

Not a fan of Izzy in any way I don't relate to him or share a single hobby with him. Just trying to be painfully objective. And both of them deserve another payday for being solid, company guys.

I would hate to be a ufc fighter its bad enough the pay isnt that very good but now even after
you've dominated a division AND GAVE AN an opportunity to a person who wouldnt of gotten it
otherwise
.... Only for the fans to slander your name call u an animal lover, cringe etc etc. and hail
some crazy hateful dude as the hero. Man screw that. KIDS DO BOXING OR PLAY ANOTHER SPORT. Pays you better
and theres more respect.

IZZY WAS WINNING HIS ALEX FIGHT before he got dropped. he then avenged it. This was the first
fight he truly lost bell 2 bell. its only right to see to see if it was a fluke.
What else fight do you wanna see? nobody wanna see ddp vs strickland. its boring. jared is boring.
khamzat and paula are cool, but we saw what izzy did to paula.

you cry all that about honor humility respect and fighters doing this and that But you
guys wont even uphold the honor system and allow izzy his rematch. The instant rematch benefits sean
anyways. its not only his biggest fight but he figured izzy out.

MORAL OF THE STORY. BE SELFISH !! Screw the fans. Pick your fights and only fight twice a year.

Maybe he's also pleasantly surprised at just how much people love Strickland

very true

strickland is alot more relatable to the average person. hard upbringing, blue collar type of guy, very relatable to alot off ppl, plus he keeps it real.

izzy is relatable to anime / japanimation lovers and ppl that have 3 citizenships.

Yet he's still a better MW than both Costa and Chimaev. What have either of those guys done at MW that's in anyway close to what the Reaper has accomplished. Costa hasn't looked good at MW in 3+ years and is massively overrated whilst Khamzat is entirely untested at MW outside of beating up GM3 and some other random scrub.

Dana is such a fucking liar. He clear as day said he wants to do the rematch.
Now he says he didn't.

Yep. After the fight he mainly talked about what was wrong with Izzy. Now he has pivoted to praising Strickland. Pink goof took weeks longer than everyone else to realize he caught lightning in a bottle with Strickland.

Total other direction. DDP vs Strickland and Adesanya can fight someone else for now. Maybe Cannonier again or Khamzat Costa Winner. Adesanya needs some time to think about what happened to him. Putting him right back in there to lose after how active he has been with these losses, will ruin his career. If it hasn't already.
