What do you mean? They told the guy from the outset that he was only getting their support if he didn't cross them. He crossed them. He's out. They stuck to their plan. This wasn't some wild out of nowhere move, and it's nice to see some conviction behind their words for a change, and see someone get punished for their failures.

Oh', and it's not like the rest of the party didn't agree with them. The six or seven MAGAs didn't make this happen on their own. McCarthy is clearly not well liked, so why should they just stick with status quo, that isn't getting what they want done? Just because?

Any idea how many Republican votes the Democrats would need to select the Speaker? Instead of continuing to vote for Jeffries they should see if they can make a deal with enough moderate Republicans to vote one of them into the position. It would be a rational Speaker that could run the House in a more bipartisan manner.

with 212 democrats, and 221 republicans in congress, assuming everyone shows up i believe they would only need to flip 5 republicans for that to happen.

its a longshot at best, as those republicans would get crushed in their primaries. i dont ever see it happening.

Force the vote worked in this case even if you hate all those involved.

It worked to do what? If "the Squad" actually wants to pass progressive legislation, Gaetz's approach would not work. But if they just care about personal fame, it probably would.

the democrats arent going to vote to keep a republican speaker in the house. that would be career suicide when their own seats come up for re-election.

they weren't really voting with gaetz. they were voting for their own parties interest. now sit back and watch as they all vote in unison for hakeem jeffries, instead of whatever chucklefuck matt gaetz and the rest of the GOP clown crew throw out as nominations.

get ready to hear "we stand united with hakeem jeffries" for another 15+ times from the democrats, as the republicans continue to try to find leadership within their own party. how many rounds will this one go to with hakeem jeffries winning the vote while they are still unable to elect a speaker? none of the democrats are going to come to the republicans rescue for this one. they will continue to vote in lockstep with their party.

this is the republicans problem to deal with. not theirs. the republicans brought this on themselves, and the only reason why the democrats are "going along with it" is just to try to get their own leader elected. none of the democrats took the floor today. its not their problem and they are sitting this one out. they are just going to sit back eating their popcorn and watching the other side throw their shit at each other and eat each others faces while they wait for their turn to vote for hakeem jeffries. they are not going to come to kevin mccarthy's rescue, or anybody else on the other side. the republicans are on their own.

It's more that they're trying to damage the country with a shutdown and they just ousted their speaker for not being crazy enough, even though he is pretty damned crazy. They're a mess. The party is run by entertainers now, and they don't know how to actually do their jobs.
