News White to Aspinall: Defend Interim Title or Sit on the Shelf. You Don't Get Jones.

“No,” White answered when asked if Aspinall could fight Jon Jones. “And we’re not stripping Jon Jones either...(It) ain’t happening,” White said. “Stipe, you have to understand this, if you look at what Stipe’s accomplished in this sport, what he’s done, where he’s at in his career, he wants the Jon Jones fight“ [Miocic] wants Jones and Jones wants Stipe, so it makes sense.” If Aspinall wants to fight before that fight happens, why not? Why not let him defend it (the interim title)?”

How little will this fight matter? How much of a casual will you need to be to buy this fight? Are you even interested in this fight a year from now? It only hurts Jones' legacy to duck the Interim Champ to fight Stipe. It doesn't help him at all.
dana is right
stipe is 2-1 in his last 3 fights all championship the highest level
arguably the HW GOAT
vs JON the GOAT

and here you are talking about aspinal lmao
who doesnt want to defend?

its only 1 fight lmaoo

I’m pretty sure if Aspinall knocked lowlife Jones the fuck out. It would be remembered for as long as people that saw it remained alive. And that is why Jones would NEVER accept that fight.
ive heard that sht for more than a decade
after villain jones embarasses all your heroes
you find another new one in hopes that he gets beaten

weirdos never learn
hey im dr strange
gonna do this sht forever
again and again loooooooooooool

as of today, its the real hw fight to make. Aspinal is not a champion yet.

Yep, Jon even said Stipe was the toughest fight he could possibly take and I believe him bro. He said Stipe is so tough and dangerous at this point in his retirement that he needs to take care of that business before he can even think about unifying the belt. I know he would never duck anyone even though he did duck Chael Sonnen back in the day and got a whole event cancelled because of it.

Exactly. He's a new generation and the only fighters he can make a name off of won't fight. And it's actually closer to three duckers with Jon, Stipe, and Gane.
Aspinall has finished Arlovski, Spivac, Volkov, Tybura, and Pavlovich so I think he has a solid record as is. Except for Pavlovich I wouldn't say any of those guys are elite HW talent but they are consistent B tier guys who have hovered in or just outside of the HW rankings for years and Tom made quick work of them.

If he gets his L back against Blaydes, I think that will answer any remaining questions. That and a win over Gane will make him the undisputed champ no matter what Jones does but it's still a lot of ifs

Whatever you did half a decade ago is irrelevant.

Stipe is completely irrelevant and retired. He will come out of retirement, coming off a bad KO loss, to fight Jones.

It is patently absurd from every angle. Jon should defend or vacate against the #1 contender, but the UFC runs this like the circus coming to town.

The shareholders like Mark Wahlberg and Tom Brady get more money from the Miocic fight.

If it was about Miocic or Jones money the UFC could just walk in the locker room and give them it like they did to Cormier.

The Miocic fight is priority. Nothing anyone says will change it. Let's dance partner.

They are shooting themselves in the foot. Nobody besides Dana, Jones and Stipe cares about that fight.

It doesn't even make sense business wise. Who gives a fuck about their legacy when both are going to immediately retire and leave the company anyway?
it's not about the fans caring about the fight. it's about keeping jones' undefeated record in tact.

Randy Couture is also 2-1 in his last 3 fights, all against former champs. His last win seems just as recent as Stipe's

Guess we should do Jon-Randy

Seeing multiple people trying to speak to orca using logic is quite funny. Guy has more CTE than the average crash test dummy.
I've often commented on the purposeful stupidity of trolls on top of the shortlist of dumbest posters on this site, and he's repeatedly blown them all out of the water

I really hope this explodes in the bald goof’s face. Stipe is unable to fight again and Jon is forced to fight a real threat nobody knows. Hopefully a Cain vs Brock type of beating is in store for Jonny boy.

Maybe Aspinal should fight Blaydes for the real HW belt and Jones fight Stipe for a new belt called " olds champ belt" or " the ducking belt"

What’s Dana’s obsession with Jones? Jon must be really easy to negotiate with, it’s probably why he’s comparatively made peanuts over the years. Make no mistake, as soon as Jon leaves the company and UFC can no longer make a bogus claim of having the goat fighting for them, which is bollocks anyway, Jon will be an after thought, and he knows it.

It’s just weird seeing how they’ve stuck by Jon considering other fighters they’ve cast aside for much less. Jones has fucked up like 5-6 seperate events with failed tests, now he’s fucking up even more with his ducking. He made the sport of mma look like a complete joke and gave its detractors lots to laugh about. He’s one of the reasons why I don’t tell people I follow this stuff anymore honestly

Everyone calm down... Oct 25th was the announcement that Jon tore his pecker... & that was projected at 8 months recovery. (Late next month)

His first reported day back in teh gym waz April 24th (3 weeks ago) I expect he's still taking it easy on his pecker but is nearing full recovery & we'll get teh announcement soon.

They're probably not hating all this free advertising though, so maybe they're holding back on purpose while we all get bent out of shape & keep this fight in the headlinez.

May 2nd - "I swear, after those two surgeries and at this age in the sport, you learn not to take being an athlete for granted. So grateful for just making it through another practice successfully, this team, the unwavering supporters all around me. I thank God for a new day."
