Movies MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Movie Dead at Netflix After at Least $30 Million in Development (post #221)

I'm drawing a blank as to who they could cast as He-Man , probably Chris Hemsworth

I would prefer a relative unknown as He-Man, same with Hemsworth when he got his big break with Thor.

Yeah that will most likely be the case, but they need to cast A -listers opposite him to make it profitable , Hemsworth had the luxury of Marvel Marketing and the acting opposite Natlie Portman and Anthony Hopkins.

As long as they dont use that idiot from White House Down, i dont care.

I guess chris would do. But yeah.. Better finding a relative unknown actor, that still can act (and bulk up)..

I've been meaning to watch the first movie since learning that it was loosely based on Jack Kirby's Fourth World/New Gods.

Director Shortlist for MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE Revealed

He-Man-Battle-Cat-022614-Dragonlord.jpg

As Sony Pictures and Escape Artists scramble to get their He-Man movie Masters of the Universe off the ground, three directors have emerged as frontrunners for the high-profile job, including Mike Cahill, Chris McKay and Harald Zwart, an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.

Jon M. Chu was previously attached to direct the film, which is based on the classic 1980s animated TV series. No deals are in place and a studio insider cautions that other directors are still in the mix.

Of the three mentioned above, Zwart makes the most sense for the gig, as he directed Sony’s reboot of “The Karate Kid,” which grossed an impressive $359 million worldwide. A studio favorite who previously directed Sony’s Pink Panther 2, Zwart also has experience making big-budget, VFX-heavy movies, having directed Mortal Instruments: City of Bones for Screen Gems, which is owned by Sony.

Cahill would be an intriguing choice, as he’s made his mark in Hollywood with low-budget, sci-fi-themed dramas such as Another Earth and I Origins, both of which were bought by Fox Searchlight out of Sundance. Masters of the Universe would represent a major leap for Cahill in terms of scope and budget, though he has proved he can create snazzy visuals with minimal funds.

McKay, believe it or not, has the most momentum despite the fact that he has yet to direct a studio movie. McKay served as the editor of The Lego Movie, as well as its animation supervisor/co-director. He is also one of the key creative forces behind Adult Swim’s hit series “Robot Chicken.

Jeff Wadlow Reportedly to Direct MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE

According to The Schmoes Knows, Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) has signed on to direct Sony's planned reboot of Masters of the Universe. That's signed, sealed, delivered -- they reckon it's only a matter of time before this one hits the trades.

Wadlow had been lined up by Fox to direct their X-Force movie, but obviously that doesn't look good if he's chosen to bring He-Man, Fisto, Ram-Man, and the rest of the slightly pornographically monikered heroes to the big screen.

Previous versions of scripts have veered away from the original cartoon quite a bit, but we have no idea what type of story Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lone Ranger) is currently working on. The project hit a problem last October when director Jon M. Chu departed the film to go and make G.I. Joe 3 instead.

Last February, it was reported that Mike Cahill (Another Earth), Chris McKay (editor and animation supervisor of The LEGO Movie) and Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid) were on the shortlist of directors.

As far as remakes go, I'd love to see this. The first one was atrocious.

When was the last time you saw it?

Sure it had that terrible 80's pacing and score, but its actually not that bad.

the story was terrible. Why even introduce the Earth dimension to the story? From what I remember from the cartoon, Earth as we know it is never mentioned. And Skelator in the movie was even worse. He looked he would fall over in a stiff breeze. No, everything about the 1st was bad.
