Media David "Tank" Abbott on Jaxxon Podcast

Fortunately no one made you the Queen of Determining Real MMA Fans. Rampage was more exciting in the first half of his career, but his style isn't among the most exciting in my book. He had pretty good boxing and wrestling and relied heavily on his strength, explosiveness and chin.

Media David "Tank" Abbott on Jaxxon Podcast

Excuse-maker, obnoxious (especially stuff he did in Japan), not as funny as he thought. But he's pretty cool now.

I wasn't a Rampage fan as a fighter but props to him for getting all these legends on his podcast.

Nah, it will be in Karate Combat, baby!

Where does Yoel Romero rank in MW History?

Bisping lost to Sonner. The others aren't worth mentioning except a 40-year old, gimp-legged Anderson who would've utterly destroyed Bisping in his prime. Bisping also lost to an old Wand, Kennedy and many others.

Where does Yoel Romero rank in MW History?

It's worth noting that like Bisping, Yoel also beat Rockhold (he was 1-0 vs. Luke while Bisping was 1-1). He also beat Kennedy who beat Bisping. And he had wins over Jacare, Weidman and Brunson. The only other significant wins I can give Bisping were decisions over a 46-year old Hendo and a...

Media Let the Strickland / Costa smack talk commence...

I agree. I don't know why so many here are acting like this is a 50/50 fight. Costa hasn't finished anyone since 2018. He couldn't even finish the shell of the corpse of Rockhold. Strickland went a combined 15 rounds with Cannonier, Izzy and DDP without getting finished. Just because Poatan...

    Is Shavkat overhyped?

Very talented/dangerous fighter who brings it and goes for the kill. However, TS has some fair points, though I think he goes a bit too far. It's worth noting that Wonderboy was almost 41 when he fought Shavkat and has gone 3-4 since 2017. This isn't the same Wonderboy who was KO-ing Whittaker...

Rewatch Chris Leben vs. Wanderlei Silva

Eh, i don't know. According to the Pride fanboys here, Fedor/Big Nog/Cro-Cop all exited their primes between 31-33. And Wand was coming off a win against future MW champ Bisping and went 2-1 in his next 3 fights, finishing the same Brian Stann who finished Leben before this fight.

Where does Yoel Romero rank in MW History?

Kennedy also beat Bisping. No one seems to remember that.

Where does Yoel Romero rank in MW History?

I get what you're saying, but I think it's a combination of skill and athleticism. Skillwise, he didn't wrestle much except his very early fights, and his striking was pretty simple....mostly waiting around then trying to time a superman punch, flying knee or something. Besides Anderson, I think...

Sean Strickland vs Paulo Costa or Alex Pereira vs TBA or Islam Makhachev vs Dustin Poirier - Which fight are you most excited to watch? (Semi-Finals)

Yeah, I don't know why so many on this thread are acting like it's a 50/50 fight. Anything can happen in MMA, but the smart money is on Strickland.

Overeem doesn't see Alex Pereira as a champion

Remember, though Overeem also got KO'd by Browne and Rothwell around the same time Bigfoot beat him. All 3 were powerful/dangerous, but none were great technical fighters and all were a bit slow/lumbering. While it was late in Overeem's career, this fight exemplified what happened so many...

Sean Strickland vs Paulo Costa or Alex Pereira vs TBA or Islam Makhachev vs Dustin Poirier - Which fight are you most excited to watch? (Semi-Finals)

Gus was at least 3-0 vs. Brazilians before Werdum. I forgot he finished a prime Glover--pretty impressive. It goes to show odd records like that can always be broken.

Where does Yoel Romero rank in MW History?

I get that but he would've almost certainly taken the belt from Bisping with fair matchmaking. Instead, Bisping fought (and barely) beat a 46-year old Hendo, who was like Yoel 1.0 but years past his prime and 3-6 in his last 9 fights. Then Bisping fought a WW on a 4-year layoff...and lost.

Sean Strickland vs Paulo Costa or Alex Pereira vs TBA or Islam Makhachev vs Dustin Poirier - Which fight are you most excited to watch? (Semi-Finals)

Yeah, I don't get all this confidence in Costa. Strickland went a total of 15 rounds with Izzy, DDP and Cannonier and none of them KO'd him. I know Poatan KO'd him but he's also KO-ing top LHWs. Sean has a pretty good chin and good defense. Costa has some power but is mostly a brawler who hasn't...

Sean Strickland vs Paulo Costa or Alex Pereira vs TBA or Islam Makhachev vs Dustin Poirier - Which fight are you most excited to watch? (Semi-Finals)

Sean is more durable than Whittaker at this point. How did Whittaker-Costa go?

Sean Strickland vs Paulo Costa or Alex Pereira vs TBA or Islam Makhachev vs Dustin Poirier - Which fight are you most excited to watch? (Semi-Finals)

Pretty meaningless stat. Most likely this looks like Whittaker-Costa. Remember, Costa is 1-4 since 2019. His only win was a ho-hum decision over a fossilized Rockhold who was finished months later by Mike Perry in bareknuckle. Strickland has the skills and stamina to throw leather for 3-5 rounds...

Crazy Stat about Rumble at LHW

It's wild because Rumble started fighting in the UFC a year before Jones. Unlike others here, I think Jones would've been a very bad matchup for Rumble (great chin, could avoid strikes with reach and movement, could take down and submit/GnP pretty much anyone in his early days). However, I could...
