I'm so sorry. I hope your friend pulls through OK.
MG got VERY lucky diagnosing early and he's clearly had a rough year, but he looks pretty good physically, which was great to see.
He had his six-month checkup at the hospital today. He said it's good news. I think that means complete remission, but don't quote me. I do know he gets his port removed tomorrow and should heal enough to be back on the mats in "ten to twelve days," according to what he said this evening at MG...
Hope your 4th day back was good! I'm just heading to my 2nd. I'm only 130 lbs so my situation is a bit different, though I'm also in good shape (I can do more pullups than any other woman at my gym, and also, amusingly, more than Matheus Diniz, though he is stronger than I am by literally every...
Not a ton of advice but solidarity, 35-y-o 3-stripe purple just took 6 months off from a disc injury, PT'ed my head off, gained muscle and strength, going back Monday. Good luck. I like people's advice on flowing more--my issue is I have a rep for being a hard roll so people want/expect that...
As per his latest instagram post, the cancer had not spread and there's very low chance of recurrence. He has four more chemo treatments to go. So glad.
He received his first chemo treatment in NY and is now back in Hawaii continuing chemo. He looks pretty good and stopped by the academy (masked) while in NYC. He'll be back to the city for surgery in a couple of months.
In fairness, this was the first promotion post-pandemic reopening. It was pretty chaotic as these things go. I'm still purple a year later so it's probably all fine in the end!
I've improved my closed guard and triangle hunting a ton since focusing on it for 6 months. The next 6 are my open guard months plus shoring up my already solid half guard. My top game has outpaced my bottom game since white belt (now purple). I did really well passing in my last comp, but...
33yo purple finding my game and lasso and lapel are playing a pretty prominent role for me as a lightweight person.
you absolutely need to set goals and attempt progressive overload if you're strength training. Part of the impetus to keep it in my routine is that I lose progress if I stop...
TBH the most inspiring thing about that match was watching the meta of a top game vs. a leg lock game start to evolve. I've thought for a long time that there just isn't as much sophistication in the top game vs. the leg lock game as there could be; seems like most people just counter with their...
Can we talk about Ana Carolina vs. Lis Clay, though? That honestly changed my opinion about what might happen at ADCC. I wasn't that familiar with Ana Carolina's nogi game and it was hugely inspiring to me--I love it when people can shut down the leg lock/guard game, as it seems rare to be able...
Check out Paul Schreiner's instructionals. He teaches a pressure-heavy, slow, but highly technical game (and does also invert and incorporate modern elements). The "connected reaction" series is the best/most recent of his stuff and really good for older or less athletic people.
Assault with the deadliest weapon of all: the earth itself.
No joke, though, that's horribly abusive and I don't doubt that coach's sadism had injured others before. WTF. Terrible.
