Hypothetical matchup

So who wins ??

Dream team starting 5
  • Center: Patrick Ewing.
  • Power Forward: Charles Barkley.
  • Small Forward: Larry Bird.
  • Shooting Guard: Michael Jordan.
  • Point Guard: Magic Johnson

Redeem team starting 5

•Center: Dwight Howard
•power forward : Carmelo Anthony
•small forward : LeBron James
•shooting guard : Kobe Bryant
• point guard : Chris Paul

With 90's rules for fouls Dream Team easily.

With current rules, it's a toss up.

That redeem team is as soft as 3 ply toilet paper.

I'm torn I'm leaning towards the redeem team

Kobe
Bron
D Wade
Melo

Etc

based on starting 5:

92 Ewing > 08 Howard
Reason: Ewing had a more polished offensive game than Howard. Ewing would be able to nullify Howard's strength down low.

92 Barkley = 08 Carmelo
Reason: Both are too offensively talented to stop each other

92 Bird < 08 James
Reason: Old and bad-back Bird no match for athletic LBJ

92 Jordan > 08 Kobe
Reason: Best match up and both around the same age but 29 year old Jordan is still better in every aspect of the game than 29 year old Kobe

92 Johnson = 08 Paul
Reason: Johnson's size is too much for Paul to defend but Magic is a shitty defensive player.

2 - Dream Team
1 - Redeem Team
2 - Even

Dream Team prevails

EDIT: see Jordan/Kobe

nice breakdown. Imagine a seven game series lol

Peak Wad is the best player on both teams so I'm going with 08

Dream Team. They'd crush them in the trash talking alone. Edit: Dream Team bench was far superior, too.

Bird and Magic were pretty old at this point in their careers but they had an amazing bench as @ThulsaDooom pointed out.

Who are the benches. As I recall the Dream Team was fucking stacked where as the 08 squad was basically a starting five of LBJ and his homies plus Kobe and then some other people to round it out.

I would pick the Dream Team. I would put the 2012 team over the 2008 team.

PG: Chris Paul
SG: Kobe
SF: LeBron
PF: Durant
C: Tyson Chandler

Anthony Davis, Harden, and Westbrook off the bench.

Boozer, Carlos 26 – November 20, 1981 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m) Utah Jazz
G 5 Kidd, Jason 35 – March 23, 1973 6 ft 4 in (1.93 m) Dallas Mavericks
F 6 James, LeBron 23 – December 30, 1984 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m) Cleveland Cavaliers
G 7 Williams, Deron 24 – March 24, 1984 6 ft 3 in (1.91 m) Utah Jazz
G 8 Redd, Michael 28 – August 24, 1979 6 ft 6 in (1.98 m) Milwaukee Bucks
G 9 Wade, Dwyane 26 – January 17, 1982 6 ft 4 in (1.93 m) Miami Heat
G 10 Bryant, Kobe (C) 29 – August 23, 1978 6 ft 6 in (1.98 m) Los Angeles Lakers
C 11 Howard, Dwight 22 – December 8, 1985 6 ft 11 in (2.11 m) Orlando Magic
F/C 12 Bosh, Chris 24 – March 24, 1984 6 ft 11 in (2.11 m) Toronto Raptors
G 13 Paul, Chris 23 – May 6, 1985 6 ft 0 in (1.83 m) New Orleans Hornets
F 14 Prince, Tayshaun 28 – February 28, 1980 6 ft 9 in (2.06 m) Detroit Pistons
F 15 Anthony, Carmelo 24 – May

This team would shit stomp the meme team

That's why the 1992 Olympic team was the most explosive. They were able to cycle hall of fame and super star players off the bench. There will not be a collection of talent close to that one team in the foreseeable future.

Robinson, Ewing, Malone, Barkley, Bird, Pippen, Mullin, Laettner, Jordan, Magic, Stockton, Drexler

I liked your analysis except for Barkley vs Carmelo. Barkley is no doubt the better powerfoward. This is a guy who could average 14 rebounds a game. Carmelo's best year was 8
