STOCKTON, CA - Abel Simmons has been a huge fan of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) for years. But never did he imagine that he would be using the moves to defend himself or his family from a carjacking suspect.

Simmons, 29, was able to stop and hold down his attacker until police came.

Simmons says his family was pulling up to their home on E. Jefferson Street Saturday night. They had just returned from watching a UFC fight.

They were in the driveway when a man came up and started pounding on the back window of their SUV. Then, the man tried opening the back door where Simmon's sons - a newborn and a 2 year old - were sleeping. Fortunately, the door was locked.

Simmons, who was sitting in the passenger seat, jumped out out and tried to stop the man. His wife, who was driving, called 911.

The guy punched Simmons in the face. That was when Simmons tried several mixed martial arts moves. He wasn't able to restrain the assailant right away.

"I just snatched his legs and took him down. I had just put him in an arm bar, he slipped right out of it. So then I got him in a rear naked choke and started rolling and squirming around. He got out of that as well," said Simmons.

But the last move he tried worked.

"I had him in a guillotine choke. And he wasn't getting out of that. I had that lock really tight," said Simmons. "I just held him in place and said, 'Well, guess you are going to jail tonight buddy.'"

A neighbor came out to help, but he didn't' have to do much because Simmons had the man in a compromising position.

"It's impressive," said the neighbor. "He just had him in like a chokehold, had him really good, really tight."

Simmons held the man until police arrived several minutes later. According to police, the man fought with officers before being taken into custody.

The suspect, 32-year-old Shron Jones is now behind bars, booked on attempted carjacking, battery and resisting arrest.

Untrained people shouldn't have the false confidence to attempt armbars in that situation. That could have lead to him getting really hurt and his family being defenseless.

trane teh ufc bro!

In all seriousness, it's good even watching these moves allowed this guy to protect his family.

LOL! at UFC moves... the other day I used Fast & Furious moves to avoid an accident. :)

If found guilty, Jones is going away for a stretch with those charges, lest he pleads down -- A LOT. - E

i definitely expect this in stockton. a lot of just bleed guys walking around with no intention of actually training.

Hilarious. Could have been another homicide car wash in Stockton if the guy knew how to do the choke right.

Good thing the attacker didn't have a knife. That guy could've ended up bleeding to death while trying to remember how exactly to do that cool move he just saw on TV…

Now my question is if it was a "really tight" guillotine, how did the carjacker stay conscious/not have his trach crushed in the several minutes it took police to arrive. Unless our hero was holding on from the bottom of side mount...

At least on the demonstration he had his neighbor in guard. I guess he meant that he had a good grip sinked in under the attackers chin. It's a good position to just hold someone and apply more pressure if the guy tries to wriggle out. On the other hand, if the attacker had a knife, he could have reached for it with his free hand and knifed the shit out of the guys side.

In 1993 our father created the ultimate fighting championship to showcase the effectiveness of jiu jitsu to the world. And now that every professional fighter has added it to their arsenal, we're breaking down how they're using it so you can defend yourself against car jackers.

exactly, it's not really a guillotine more like a head lock. Maybe the guy will realise now that it's not as easy as it looks and get himself down to training so he can actually finish a sub.

Cecil Peoples had it 29-28 for the car jacker.

dude just madee a sick transition, armbar to RNC to guillotine... dude must probably feel like a UFC black belt...

now seriously, who the fuck goes for an armbar in a SF, with someone trying to break into your car where your wife and kids are? what kind of super oxymoron you must be?

I call this BS.

edit: was that a high elbow guillotine???

im calling bullshit
no way he went for an armbar, armbars are really difficult
